Oil pressure gauges and more ...

Hi,
A few questions for the experts out there ...
I'm looking to replace a fascia blanking plate on the center console of my Mk III VR6 with an oil pressure gauge. Has anyone else done this? I'd like it to look as 'stock' as possible.
Secondly, does anyone know where I can get hold of an authentic VW cargo net for the trunk of my sedan?
Also, can anyone confirm that the VW Passat sunglasses holder (part no. 1J0 857 465 Y20) will fit a Mk III Jetta (Vento)? My car is rhd, so I'm wondering if this part will fit on the driver's side in my car, or whether replaces the lhd side grab-handle, in which case it's a bit pointless for me!
Thanks
Chris

When you say "Facia Blanking Plate" do you mean where the Radio is (rather was)? Or perhaps where the heated seat dials would go? I think Oettinger makes a part that can go in with the Heated seat area. It looks pretty nice, but you could probably put something together with some black plastic and Anodised Hex-Head screws.

Can't help ya with the other questions though, I've looked through the EKTA parts CD and I've never seen a cargo net. However, that doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

Hi Aaron,
Thanks for the reply. The blanking plate is immediately to the right of the radio in my car. There's actually one full/regular size plate and another smaller one.
Cheers

Okay I think I know what you're asking so here goes nothing!

Here's the part from Oettinger for the Facia plate between the radio and the steering wheel:

This looks to be a fairly simple piece and it wouldn't take much work to do a custom one yourself. I've seen one from another user on here, but I can't remember who it was. But he did it basically how I described in my earlier post.
This is a plate for installing some gauges in the cupholder area, also from Oettinger (though I know you can get this from other sources as well):

Now I'm assuming you don't have the cupholders in that area as the North American cars do, but I doubt that would make that much difference.
Hopefully that helps a little.

Sorry, here's Oettinger's website in case you want more info: http://www.oettinger.de/web_en/produkte/produkte_index.htm

Anyone know where to get a 3-gauge holder to go in the cup holder section??? ABT use to make one ages ago, I guess it would be a custom job?

My buddy and I made one out of the plastic blanking plate for the MK4 VW's. If you want a pic shoot me an email.

Great news re. Oettinger. I'll track down somewhere where I can buy these plates.
Cheers.

What a coincidence, I'm working on the same type of installs. I'm doing mine myself though. The one between the radio and steering wheel is actually really easy, I'm still working on that right now. I'm going to go custom on the bottom cupholders section as well, but I'm going to have 2-3 other guages there as well as my future electronic boost controller and turbo timer.
I went to my local Car Audio shop and asked for the Metra custom plastic panelling. Which is what they use to make custom speaker fitmits radio openings, etc. It only cost me $15 usd
I hope to at least have the boost guage by the radio finished by this weekend

Hey 97VenomGTI -you have mail - let me know what you think.
Re: Oil pressure gauges and more ... (AucklandGuy)

In regard to the cargo net. The Wolfsburg's models in the US had cargo nets suposedly standard. I can get the part numbers Tonight and post them Tomorrow. I am not sure what your exchange rate is but it cost me about $55 US. That was for the net and the two hooks from the VW Dealer.
For the sunglass holder, I do know there is one offered for the US Beetle but only works with the A4 chassis because on the A3, or at least with my 1998, there is no grab handle for the driver's side. I guess you can drill two holes to make it fit. I was not aware of the Passat sunglass holder and I am not aware if it is the same.

If you need cargo nets, I have about 20 of em from Honda Accords, but they work perfect in my GTi....

I'm thinking about a similar job too! But I dont understand how a guage would fit in that small area between the wheel and radio? Can I see a pic? thanks!

You might try contacting Cullen, he's kind of the Vortex connection in Europe. He might be able to help a bit. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
As for a pic of this install, look up a bit. I posted one already.

The guage fits in there with no real problem. A dremel tool with grinding bits(cutting bits tend to take off too much at a time) is very handy with this type of work. Just have to make sure all of your measurements are on point. like the saying goes "measure once, and then measure again, then cut.."
I'll see if I can get some pics of my install this weekend.

Eric:
The Oettinger piece is $$$. Get one from New Dimensions or Eurosport...I know they carry them and much cheaper. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

The pics you sent me are awesome! You should resize them and post them on here for everyone to see. I need to go to my local VW junker and pick me up a MK4 blank plate. Very good idea man!

Re: Oil pressure gauges and more ... (97VenomGTI)

i made one for my girl's car... unfortunately i dont have pics of it... I took out the blank plates for the heated seats, and cut it out of plexiglass... i then painted the plexi flat black, and put an Autometer 2 1/6" gauge in there... its a close fit, but it fits...
