Re: oil pressure problems (xjronx)

The white sender on the oil filter housing is a high pressure sender, if the pressure isn't at atleats 1.8bar at 2000 the switch will remain closed setting of the buzzer, if that sender fails or the wire is off the buzzer will also sound at 2000.

Re: oil pressure problems (xjronx)

what if on my 88 jetta gl, the buzzer and light come on when the engine drops below 2200 revs, but only when the engine is hot. i switched to heavier oil and the problem stopped. the sender is probably not the problem, correct? is it my oil pump?

Re: oil pressure problems (Phateless)

It could have a faulty oil pump or the bearings are worn and not allowing pressure to build, you need to test the pressure with a gauge before you start changing parts like the pump, it could be a faulty switch.

Re: oil pressure problems (Vdubs)

i talked to the dealer mechanic today, he said non-stock filters can actually cause oil pressure problems on these cars because the valving may be backwards, not allowing oil to flow quite right. I can't remember exactly what he said but i'm sure someone more knowledgeable on here can take up the slack. He also said jettas like mine were designed for 20/50 and running lighter oil could potentially cause problems. Hope this is helpful to others with similar problems. -josh
