When I tighten down the gear cover on the side of the block the oil pump intermediate shaft will not turn. If I loosen it it frees it up. Do I have the gear in correctly or is there supposed to be a monster o-ring in the cover to space it out even more? It has an o-ring on it now that looks sufficient.

Well I figured it out. Apparently the oil pump gear must be inserted with the long plain end towards the motor. I had it upside down and it would work unless I tightened down the cover.

It was a pain to get off until I clamped down some needle nose vise grips and spun the oil pump pulley backwards while pulling on the grips. Hope this help someone!
