Oil Question...

When using full synthetic....what grade should be used? I got a free case of 10w30... but I'm weary of using it? I know 5w30 is in there. Just wondering what the difference is, and if I should try to trade in the case I have for the 5w30.

10W30 should be OK if you live in San Diego. You should really use 0W/5W-30/40 though.
Re: Oil Question... (dbrowne1)

I use Castrol Syntec 5W-30 , only cause Mobil 1 was out.
Re: Oil Question... (RVs021.8T)

redline synthetic is probably your best bet
then mobil 1 5w30
then valvoline 5w40
Re: Oil Question... (AxeAngel)

I got some Mobil 1 0W-40 from their distributor today (actually my girlfriend picked it up) with no problem. That viscocity is typically found only in Europe. It's even called European Car Blend. Only cost about 4.75/quart.
Re: Oil Question... (bc5star)

firstly how the hell did you get your hands on that stuff. its so hard to come by, you sure u didnt get the one for boats...?
and 4.75 is ridiculously high.... $1.50 for mobil 1 5w30 synth is good for me
Re: Oil Question... (AxeAngel)

I went onto Mobil's web site, got the number for their local distributor and gave them a call. They said that there was no place locally to buy that grade and they could sell it to me directly. $27.03 for a case of 6 + tax of course. I have NEVER, EVER seen Mobil 1 as cheap as $1.50/ quart. Congrats on finding that. As for the boat oil comment, give me some credit. I mentioned in my earlier post that it says right on the bottle "European Car Blend".

There's a reason for that.
It only happens if the store screws up or you CRIMINALLY switch the price tags.
Anyway, you can get the 0W-40 online, at Porsche and Mercedes dealers, and through Mobil distributors. $4.75 is as good a price as I have seen for it anywhere.

Re: Oil Question... (dbrowne1)

The case I got is Valvoline 10w30 full synthetic...... is it ok to use on my car, or do I need to exchange it for 5w30?
Re: Oil Question... (GTIrob01)

i just picked up a case of 0w-40 Mobil 1 and after tax is was $36. the oil distributor i got it from got it overnight, which was fast. now i just need to get a lower price for it. well, i have another 3-4 months to shop around.
Re: Oil Question... (treyrox)

Is that a case of 12 quarts or only 6? If it's 6 that's mighty expensive.
