I'd like to see what kind of interest we have to start up some sort of Southwest show/race event in the Phoenix area. Everyone seemed to take well to it Sat nite. I just want to double check with you guys before I vring it up to the Reps. I've already had some offers from a few people to help get us locations, sponsorships, advice, etc. What does everyone think?

Well I think it is a good idea. It is a lot of work, everyone involved needs to be prepared. We may try to get with the S.C.C.A. if you are thinking of a race event. Obviously I will participate in that, but my beater won't make any shows any time soon.
Brandon, any thoughts on getting Mark Shaw involved in this?

I've got a number of ideas in mind eventwise that I would like to see happen...Involving the SCCA is on that list...Not to mention suggestions from people that have been to other shows and spectators. But for now Im wondering what kind of support we can look for before I start goin at it with Volkwagen and watch it all fall through for a lack of planning and support.

I bet Speedworld would let us do something. We could do a show in the parking lot and of course use the track. Speedwoeld isnt as big as Firebird so it may be affordable if we get some sponsors.

For those that still read sigs, I~Fly's gti must've been waited down by his second ball, cause I left with him and some others at the same time from my house, and the ball counting bad boy himself finished ten or so minutes behind the rest of us.
110+ is the only way to drive, ecspecially if all you got is 130.

phil' no hard feelings, but you know i love making fun of you. seriously, jason you said too many nice things about my "pretty" mk4, that i almost forgot how slow it is. Seeing how many 8v's showed up was enough inspiration to guarantee my presence at every saturday GTG and any shows we put on. My madre is in the fashion merchandising industry and can hook us up with disc's on shirts, hats, merch., etc...... if we ever decided to print up that kind of stuff for an event.
also, anyone interested in being part of a h20 cooled line of t-shirts and active gear, I.M. and maybe in a year, we could help sponsor our own show. Serious inquiries only please.

Yeah, the Cactus Corvair Club borrows the SCCA timing equipment every year for their autocross, so it wouldn't be too difficult for some sort of VW club event to do so as well as long as it's open to all makes (at least for the autocross part). It probably doesn't hurt that Mark Shaw owns two VW's either.

Dont be jumpin too far ahead guys...First we gotta see exactly where we stand with sponsorship and stuff. Again I just want to see how much interest there is in helpin put this event on before I start makin arangments with VW reps.

Let me rephrase interest. If this happens we're gonna need peole to help with set-up, parking, ushering for show and race areas, registration, etc. Id like to get about 20 people interested like that. i've got a few people in mind that I'd like to talk to planning wise so theres no probs there. Its just can we get enough people to run the event. I'm sure we can get people there.
