Ok, I'm back, but....

I have some decisions to make here...
First of all, after wars with my insurance company, I have found out that I cannot get the new 02 that I wanted, so I am buying used. These are my choices....
99.5 Jetta GLS...Silver Arrow...black interior...indash CD player...30K miles....5spd, lux pkg, Monsoon
2000 Jetta GLS...Dk Blue (was it called Galactic in 2000?)...light grey interior...same everything else as the one above, but with 27K miles on it and no Monsoon.
I am leaning towards the silver, any thoughts?
PS...I HATE buying this car used, but in 8 months, I can trade it in for new. Oh yeah, I hate insurance companies, too.

If you buy a used car stay away from the 2.0 motor, its sooooooooo slow
Re: Ok, I'm back, but.... (PhillyGirl)

I personally like the Galactic blue color... and its got 3K less miles on it too... which one is actually in better condition.... oh the if u dont get th monsoon systemm... the sound will realy suck.

Get a used 1.8T... insurance premiums are usually not that bad with this car.... at least not State Farm (which is what I have)...
You'll be happy you did!!

Can't get the 1.8T, or I would....
The 2.0 engine is all I can get into, because my payments have to stay the same as they were with my old car. But the 5spd on the 2.0 is better than the automatic, and as far as speed, well, I live in Center City, Philadelphia...not too many places for me to go let loose around here

I agree that the Monsoon is better, which is one of the reasons I am leaning towards the Silver, also. I also love the silver, which was what I was planning on getting in an 02 before the accident in the 99.5

that 1/2 year makes a difference in re-sale, so if you plan to trade up within a year go with the one you think is in the best shape (that 1/2 year might not matter to a private sale .....)
Re: Ok, I'm back, but.... (PhillyGirl)

Sorry to hear the insurance company is being a pain in the arse. They can be trousered apes sometimes.
I would try and get anything over the 2.0L. As you know I traded my 2.0L in for a 1.8T. If monies are that tight then look at the TDI. More torque and obviously WAAAY better gad mileage than a 2.0L. It is tunable too! My first pick is a 1.8T, but if you can't swing that go for at least a TDI...no 2.0L!!!!

in 2000 the dark blue is Atlantic.
...as is mine!

stay away from 99.5 if you can -- it just gives me bad vibes.
a friend here has a black 99.5 GLS, and he's on his 3rd engine. it might mean nothing, but who knows.... just got his throttle body replaced last week on the new engine with only 10 hours on it.

My 99.5 gave me no problems at all....until it was totaled.

LOL...I agree...
I have a question about the car...
On the 2001s and newer they have the real clean looking side blinker lights. Can I get them for the 2000?

Didnt you say something about staying within a payment?--a VR6 GLX is gonna run u some bucks compared to the 2.0s...although Im in agreement with the others--the 2.0 is poop, especially in a city with stop and go traffic no torque= Pain.
