Ok one more question guys.

So I am going to be ordering the full shine setup next week. I am still in the air as to whether or not I should do the install myself.
Here are my questions:
1. Do you have to get an alignment after installing shock/springs?
2. how much should an alignment cost?
3. how much should an install by a pro cost?
4. what tools do I need? Please let me know ALL of them.
Thanks guys. Your help is invaluable.

1. No
2. $60 give or take a few $
3. $250-$300 depending on hourly labor rate.
4. Ask Dick... I know the Shine bar bolts are 9/16" and everything else is standard metric sizes. A good corded drill for the bar install, cordless would die...

No alignment? Why the heck do people always talk about needing to get one?

Not sure... Shine Racing did my install and I asked Eli twice about alignment and he said "NO". If you are seriously thinking of doing the install, read my post, it's got great pics of the bar installation. Here: http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=857523

I don't think the bar install will be a problem really, just drill and bolt. It's the shock/spring install thats got me worried. I have read all of these howtos and it seems pretty straightforward, then I hear a whole lot of discouraging comments about how its hard. Make me feel ok about the idea of installing my own shocks/springs. Comfort me. make me feel special

no alignment?? that sounds awfully fishy to me... maybe if you re-used the stock struts.(you can make a mark on the strut, and bolt it back up in the same place) but if you're getting new struts put on, how will they know it's set at the correct camber when they tighten the bolts on the new struts?
or does MKIV use a different front setup than MK1-3?

nothing is easy the first time around... first time changin' out my shocks/springs on my mk2 took me well over 5-6 hours... now i can do it in under 2.. just make sure u got a bentley.
