alright.. so... i want to replace my tb-ecu vac line....
1 meter.. yeah i know..
now.. i've tried many times to figure out what interior diameter it needs to be...
i've heard 3mm and 3.5 mm.. well.. went to the only VW dealership around here... the closest they have is 3.2 mm..
went to a VIP.. they started pulling out metric allen-keys to do a "size comparison"... needless to say when they pulled out the 4mm and said.. "well.. this is close, right?".. i left..
went to another auto parts store.. all they have is inch measurement....
soo... WHAT THE HECK SHOULD I DO!?!?!?!
there is only one place left to try... and if they don't have any.. i'm gonna flip.
should i just get the 3.2mm @ the dealership... or should i special order some ??
someone get back to me on this.. cause it's gettin really old.. really fast...

That braided stuff at the dealer is the right stuff. It's black and has a little yellowish strip down it. It was the only stuff they had when I went there and it fit perfect. Good luck.

Just be careful when ya actually buy the stuff. I wouldn't be suprised if a dealer gave you a yard of hose when you asked for a meter. For that reason, I asked my dealer for four feet. Then I cut off the extra bit myself.

I think they sell it by the foot any way, just make sure you get 3 and not 2, I felt safer measuring it myelf anyway

don't forget to change the vac line from the intake manifold to the fpr.
it's like a few inches long, but is very often cracked.........thus leaning out your car unnecessairly.

Re: ok... this is gettin old (g60_c)

I just bought some today from the dealer. It's stamped 3.2 x 7.0 on the hose. But I think that the stock hose is 3.5. If this is the case, then 0.3mm will make a big difference in the overall volume at 1 meter. Can anyone confirm for sure that it's supposed to be a 3.5mm internal diameter hose?

Correct me someone, if I am wrong. I believe the pulses in the intake manifold travelling up the pipe are the important thing. (Similar to tuning the length of an exhaust. ) If the pulses get to the sensor in the ECU at the wrong time, cos the length is wrong, thats when things go wrong. Think also of adjusting the SWR of a CB aerial.
I hope my theory holds water.

Okay if the volume is the important thing that we're worried about then why don't we get a smaller hose and just extend the length of it. I mean there's plenty of 3mm ID hoses around, and according to my number crunching, it would need a 1.36m length hose to compensate for the lost volume.

Piezo, I am pretty sure it's not the volume. The pulses would travel at the same speed up the pipe regardless of the diameter. If it was the volume why not get a short fat pipe??
I have experience of a car that had a pipe that was 93cm long, it ran really badly. It was transformed by a piece 1 Metre long from the local parts place. Mine ran ok and the pipe was 97cm, I changed it anyway.
Cheers

oh, okay. I was just wondering about that. So If i get a 3mm piece of hose, it should be okay. I'll try that out.
