I have a new 2002 200hp VR6 Jetta. I'm wanting to pull some more power out of it. Do i have to wait a few months for new mods or can I use exaust, intakes, chips and other bolt-ons for the already existing VR6 mods?
Also, What are some good Bolt-ons under $200 US?
I don't think the chip would work since your new motor has more valves and what not....the intake and exhaust would probably fit and work, but maybe not to their optimum potential
Intake and and exhaust mods will probably work but Im not sure, I bet a neuspeed p-flo would work, not hat it will actually help that much, and exhausts might also. Also no offense, but look for handling mods first, your car is already quite quick, considering the old vr6 with the 4 speed auto in wagon form went 0-60 in 7.2 according to car and driver, and Im sure your doing better than that, I doubt you need more power that bad.
Re: Old VR6 mods on new 200hp VR6? Can I? (Jettavr666)
dont even mod it, not worth the cash. Get a rear sway bar, and some coilovers... Now you wont have to slow down as much durning turns... which means youll be fast
I would love some tighter handling BUT, the dealership said suspension change voids warranty. Have you heard this? I do, however, plan on getting my 17"s upped to 19"s.
The eibach kit will NOT void the warranty according to my dealership(it is the only one covered on the new MKIV's), as far as power, my brother has been a mechanic for 15 years and the best you can do right now is the intake and exhaust. Dont buy an already built exhaust(costs too damn much), I had mine built by a local shop for about $270-all stainless, magnaflow muffler, 14" resonator with dual magnaflow squared oval tips(very loud at first, but now sounds great). Having one cusom built is the way to go, plus they can flush the tips just right if you have an aftermarket rear valance to complete the look. I will post pics soon if I ever find a good price on those elusive RH Cup Wheels at a good price. The intake is a matter of preference, you can take out the mesh screen feeding to the throttle body and drop in a K&N or just go cold air intake for a racier look. Do a search on that because home depot is the best place to buy custom intake parts
One thing that I would definitly do if I were you is get a Garrett Tiptronic Chip...it makes your shift times go from one second to like .2 seconds...I don't think that you could shift a manual that fast...Tiptronic looks more atractive than people think...now all you need are paddle shifters like the Audi A4 has...

Thanks for the advice guys. I have currently put together an intake myself. It has mega flow and cost me $40 US and looks nice. I'm going to check out some shops in my area for some custom exaust. As much as I want to get a new suspension I cant do it. I would feel the fool if I got a new one this soon after getting a new Jetta with the sport kit. I do see some sway bars and 19"/18" rims soon after the exaust though.
BTW - where do I get this quike shift chip? sounds very interesting!
