One thing I hate about VW/AUDI!!!!!!! and why my neighbor is looking to sue!

My apologies if this topic has been discussed before...
My neighbor bought an A4 (thanks to my recommendation) a few months ago. They started their vacation today, and after an hour into the drive, their tires blow out.
Things are fine until they jack the car up. Remind you, this was in a fairly flat Wallmart parking lot. The cheap, under-engineered, barely-legal audi jack fell and almost sliced my friend's arms.
I don't know why VW/Audi insists on equiping the dangerous jack. I had a '91 Audi 100, and I had the same experience with the same jack (I learned my lesson and now I put my spare underneath the car when the car is jacked up).
The estimated damage done to the suspension, brakes, and body are estimated at $1200. Apparently, he's not alone in cases like these, and he is looking to sue.
I love Audi/VW. This is one thing I don't get.

I'm not sure if Audi uses a different jack, but I've used the VW jack many, many times, on several different models in the last 11 years without incident.

I agree. If the jack is used correctly it should not be a problem. I have used the stock Audi/VW jacks hundreds of times and it has never ever fallen. Maybe he should make sure the car is in gear (or park if an auto) and the parking brake is on before using it.
If that was the case then he did not have the jack positioned correctly. Sorry, but the only problems I have seen are user error.
My condelences to your neighbor. I hope he gets better soon.

I guess Audi and VW jacks are different, because I have raised and lowered my Mk3 Golf dozens of times without trouble. Good tip on putting the spare under the car while it is up, I'm definitely going to start doing that now. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif Isn't that one of those things my dad should have taught me by now?

Did yourt friend know how to use the jack? May be he put it on backwards?
I've never had problelms with the VW jack.

The VW single sided jack is a lot less stable than the traditional double sided jack, but if used properly it should work just fine. And how would it chop his arm off? I don't see why he'd have his arm under the car while it's up on a jack, you'd be nexto the car and he should be able to pull away when the car started to lean. I wouldn't lean under ANY car that was just on a single jack if you paid me. The could would have to be on all 4 tires or on 2 secure jack stands before I'd go under a car!!

Who cares about the frickin' jack. What's the story on the tires? Over-inflated? Under-inflated? What brand?

The jack is made by Bilstein, so it's not VW/Audi's jack. This guy should sue himself because he is too stupid to replace the tire on his own car.

as i don't have any jack-stands
my car stood on 4 VWjacks for almost a week without ANY trouble

i've never had problems with the jack in either my jetta or my wife's new beetle. it was perfectly stable for my friend's car which stood on it for a whole weekend, WHILE being worked on (yes there were also jackstands below)

I'm not the most mechanically inclined and I've had no problems with the VW jack. Used it on my car and other A3s/A2s without incident.
