Opinions: 1997-1998 Saab 900 Convertable

Howdy Car Lovers,
I am planning on selling my 97 Jetta soon, for something different.
While I never thought I would, I've recently fallen in love with the Saab 900 Convertables.
Does anyone have any pros and cons of the vehicle? Perticularly the 97-98 model years?
Thanks!

I'm not much for the NG 900 in general, but if you're going to buy an NG those are the best years.
I'd rather recommend a 91-94 turbo convertible. If you're not going for the turbo, get a 90 S convertible - the 2.1 liter motor used in later S models had cooling problems.

saab convertibles are pretty nice cars, but your going to notice that the structure is pretty shaky, its a fairly old platform, and its really starting to show it, but other than that saabs are an aquired taste, you like them or you dont.

Which would be better? The 4 cylinder turbo, or the V6? I'd get a 5-speed of course.
Wasn't the platform redesigned in 1994? It's on some Opel platform now....
Every review I've read said that it's one of the most solid converables around.

Engine options included the 2.3 n/a, 2.5 V6 and 2.0 turbo. Get a turbo if you want to have fun, but the 2.3 n/a will be just as reliable. The V6 requires 30k mile timing belt change intervals but is a fine engine otherwise.
Re: Opinions: 1997-1998 Saab 900 Convertable (turbo_nine)

stay away from the 2.5 v6...
absolute shocker of an engine...
actually..stay away from the 900 convertibles altogether... (this coming from someone who used to drive a 900SE v6 around for a few years).
A Great car for cruising... but not that nice to drive for fun. Speed wise, dont expect to blow anyone away at the lights... but once you hit 60km/h or so it builds up some surprising speed.
We had quite a few electrical problems with our car as well...
In my opinion...if u must get a saab..at least get one with a turbo.
--- i must be one of those people who havent acquired the saab taste....

So, in conclusion, get a turbo, not the normally aspirated or the V6? Is this all correct? I really do like the convertables....
Thanks
