the GM where I work just bought his second Spyder 2.0 and I just dont get it
am I missing something or do others feel somewhat 'indifferent' about these??
(I'd rather have a GTV6 or a 914)
Enlighten me if I am an idiot on the Spyder please........

That was the only way for them to pass the safety regs. Most Alfisti prefer the older ones ala The Graduate.

Re: opinions on Alfa Romeo Spyder 2.0 (Matchschtick)

The Duetto was the spider with the long tail, but some call it 1600 spider for some reason... the Graduate was a bare bones (my favorite!) trim level in the '80s, but the car had the shorter Kamm tail. In the movie, he had a Duetto. I love these cars, no matter what year they are. I don't know about maintenance, but I've been tempted many times to drop the Cabby for a Spider. Someday.....

Re: opinions on Alfa Romeo Spyder 2.0 (VWteknik)

After Alfa withdrew from the US, the old Spiider got a last facelift, pretty nice then again:

To be honest, I´m not too fond of the actual one´s styling, although it´s a better quality car with out doubt.

Re: opinions on Alfa Romeo Spyder 2.0 (Eolair)

Actually, Alfa Romeo pulled out after the facelift. I have a 1992 Alfa Romeo brochure for the Spider Veloce and 164. I think Alfa pulled the plug in 1993 or 94.
As a footnote, I remember a Peugeot-Alfa Romeo dealership near where I used to live. That's gotta suck when both brands you sell pull out of the North American market.

yairs. as opposed to the current version spider 2.0 twin spark which is mighty slow...
so slow that my gf's auto IS200 managed to edge ahead of it on a long long straight.

The mid-80's through mid 90's Spider is a nice enjoyable vehicle. It isn't fast, isn't particularly comfortable, but they are fun to drive. They are inexpensive, easy to work on, relatively reliable and well made, and have alot of charm and character. I can think of alot of other similarly priced sporty cars that are alot less appealing.

D'oh, bwahah, forgot about the enhancements my dad did under the hood, involving two shiny turbochargers. Absolute brainfart. But still a fun car.
