Hey guys. I may need to sell my Jet in the coming months, so I have been considering other means of transportation. A car that I almost bought and have kicked myself ever since for not picking up is the Ford Contour Sport with the 24V V6. I talked myself out of it, telling myself I didn't want a car that was parked in rental fleets across America. However, the pull from that V6 has given me nightmares since getting a 4 cylinder. So, I was thinking about finding out of these used, as they have squat for resale value. Silver, black cloth, dumped on 17 in. MAS Rogers'? Anyway, just wondering what you thought of them. They always had a bit of European flair to me, esp. since they were supposed to be this 'world car' and all.

Re: Opinions on Ford Contour SE Sport (WolfsburgTekniques)

Go to BlueOval News.com. This is a Ford insider website. Lots of internal information that the general public doesn't see. I wouldn't buy anything with Ford on it right now, toooo many internal problems with manufacturing. Go to the forums and read about the problems individuals are having with the Contour.

Re: Opinions on Ford Contour SE Sport (Instrument 37)

Why people talk out their ass is beyond me.
BON is not a great source for news on a Contour.Or any FORD as they are devoted to release anything possible thats damadging http://www.contour.org is a great source of info! Also theres no major issue with a single contour.

They are great little cars, bad water pumps at 65k, no biggie though its an easy fix. Certin years have there issues but its cheap to run, handles great and insurance is nill http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
Thought I would add there are some comparos on edmunds as well SE sport vs GLX where the SE was the winner in the evaluation. not that it proves a whole lot but worth a read
Get the car and youll be happy. Looks a bit like a granny ride so its a sleeper but there are a few options to dress it up. Parts mods are out there, most if not all the SVT goods! The car will run circles around a 4cyl VW and you will be pleased with its overall performance.
Go0d luck and enjoy. Hit that site and fordmondeo.org as well for some nice shots of what can be done.

Better yet, stay away from BON... Unless you're a fan of the Weekly World News and other rags. Plus, their Contour forum is a ghost town. http://www.contour.org would be a much better site for you to visit. I actually drive an SVT Contour daily and I don't think there's a better car for the money. Sure, people have had problems with them, as they do with any car. You can visit ANY car forum's Problems section and it'd scare you off of them. Remember, not many people post when their ride is running smoothly.
A V6 Contour sport is a pretty capable little car, and the Duratech is a wonderful engine. I don't think you'd be that bad off picking one up, especially with the price you can get one for now. That's why I'm hanging on to mine for a long time. That, and the fact that I love the car.

Wow, TLP, we must've been typing the exact same thing at the same time. I've seen you around contour.org quite a bit. I post as 00SVT over there. Don't post much, but I lurk like a mofo...

Re: Opinions on Ford Contour SE Sport (MotownSVT)

After spending 2 years with a '99 SVT Contour, and having ZERO problems, even though it was driven hard (and autocrossed numerous times), I have to say that they are great cars. Everyone I know that has owned one or autocrossed them loves them. The 170 hp SE Sport is very nearly as fast (and can be made to work as well). If you can, find a 98.5 or 99 SVT, as they weren't as decontented as teh 2000s, but were better performers than the '98.
BON is an online trash rag.

Contour SVT's are very nice cars, Car and driver said they drive like an american BMW when they came out, I came very close to getting one before my jetta, but I got the jetta instead, they are very quick, sound awesome, have a decient interior, and are fairly reliable, I would look strongly at one, plus there only around 13-14k right now for many
