Opinions on HÖR 270 Cam?

799 Views 14 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  AntoineJo
I just ordered one of these along with an AMS-chipped ECU (For Exhaust and Cam) and am wondering if anyone has the same setup in their Digifant 1.8 motor. I'm mainly looking for butt-dyno readings or initial impressions.
Does make power higher? How about torque?
Thanks,

Call and cancel the order! I had a Hor for a year and some of the lobes started rounding off. I ponied up the cash for a Schrick three years ago and it has no signs of wear...

I don't know about that company in particular, but if you really want a wh..umm..HOR cam

A 270 and you're looking at your power to be all shoved towards the higher rpms. Considerable drop in low end torque, but those revs around 4500 are going to feel really cool now.

With my Schrick 268, I did lose some torque, but that Digifant has pretty lethargic throttle response anyway

4500? My car won't even think of going near that number. That seems astronomical considering the way my car drives.

My friend Shawnoen installed a Hor 270 cam when we were having a HP war with our digifants.
He was talking smack about my digifant normally aspirated Jetta so I challenge him to a race in his digifant GTI. I smoked him three times in a row pretty bad. He ordered a Hor 270 cam installed it and two weeks latter he blew my doors off.
Shawn has since upgraded to a schrick 272 but he sold the cam and it is still being used in our car club. It's still in good shape.
There are quite a few of those cams running around in my club. All of the owners are quite happy with them.
FYI.
Llew.

Excellent! That's just what I wanted to hear. I read Autotech's description of the cam:
"The AUTOTECH 270° Hydro is the best performing street legal camshaft available. Its idle characteristics have been refined to the point that it idles as if it were a stock cam (15 inches vacuum @ 900rpm). Yet, its full-range power lets you know that it is definitely not stock! Torque increases over stock appear as low as 2500 rpm, continuing without fail until over 6000 rpm. Power gains range from 7 to 9 horsepower depending on vehicle and its state of tune. Lift: 0.449", duration: 270deg. at 0.1mm check, 112deg. LC. Fits all 1.8 and 2.0 liter engines with hydraulic lifters, including crossflow heads. Lifetime warranty.

The AUTOTECH Sport 270° Hydro Cam is ground on an OEM Chill-hardened billet. "
It all sounds good to me! Can't wait to have it in the car.. and thanks for the responses!

I wouldn't buy it. Not even with those advertised specs. I've heard some lame idle stories about 270 cams and I'd rather not modify my car in such a way that causes me more grief than satisfaction.

yeah...that's just an overview of what basically is experienced. In my opinon, 270 is too high, but
on everyone

But dude. Remember, just because somebody else gained 20 hp's from a hor tech cam doesn't mean you will gain 20 hps too. It all depends on what you've got modded on your car. mines totally stock except for a few aesthetic mods.
Re: Opinions on HÖR 270 Cam? (G60Jetta2dr)

They idle fine. I've actually heard one and raced against one.
No hearsay here just personal experience.
Gawd I love hearsay. I heard from my brothers girlfriends, uncles cousins, protologists, plumbers, uncle that X is better than Y.
LOL!
I believe in dynos, timeslips, and 1st hand experience.

I love hearsay too. But timeslips or not, reality's a much better alternative when making decisions.

That would make a great signature!

I could not agree more. I will say that though: idle is very good and gains are good up high (expect to lose a good amount on the low end, especially if you have a header).
