I bought my R over the phone from the original owner in 2006 for $20,500 with 52K Miles. Flew to Reno from LA and drove it home. I'm now at 120K miles.
Old ALPINE system unchanged since 2006.

New system-
Stinger Heigh10-optical out
Audison AV5.1k HD Full DA
Bit Ten D Full DA with DRC
Focal Utopia 165's
JL Audio 13TW5s

New XS battery and Knukonceptz OFC 1/0 power/ground cables installed and a proper sound deadening/proofing this time. While the dash was out I refoamed my HVAC blend air doors. Front doors were done in '06. First is the sound deadening-constrained layer dampers (CLD) most know by the brand name Dynamat, second layer is a decoupling material-closed cell foam (CCF) third and final layer is a sound barrier-mass loaded vinyl (MLV). Also added to the front doords-3M Thinsulate. For the roof, CLD and hydrophic melamine foam was installed. They use MLV in apartment/town homes when neighbors share a wall. MLV is installed under the drywall.

wow! This is an impressive overhaul. Beautiful work, and thank you for jogging my brain about built in sound systems. Plenty of 15 year old memories came flooding back.

Beautiful car - it's lucky to have an owner willing to go the distance.

Always thought when I was a kid that I'm going to have a project car when I get older. I'm 49 now and after 30 + years of working as a technician the last thing I want to do is work on my own car on my off time. I've driven my MK4 GTI with no reverse for 7 months is how much I don't want to work on my own car. I look at his and think holy **** this guy must have the patience of a saint. I have to say your work is excellent. Very nicely done best of luck with it.

wow, that is awesome! i can only imagine how quiet that cabin is with all the sound deadening you added.

also you are a madman putting TWO! 13TW5s in this tiny little car. i had a single one of those in my MK6 R paired with a JL HD750 and it was way too much for that cabin. even in my Q5 SUV now it's still overkill.

i've been into audio since the 90s, i was building subwoofer enclosures before i even had my license. i'm amazed at how far shallow mount subwoofers have come. my goto lately is the 10TW3, amazing woofer with minuscule enclosure requirements.
