I have a 2001 jetta vr6.
It has a cel and the dreaded "emissions workshop" message. Took it AZ and got the following codes. P1116,
P0300, P0301, P302.
AZ looked them up for me. I looked them up when I got home. Agreement in P03xx, random misfire, and cyl x misfire.
Disagreement on P1116. AZ = engine coolant sensor out of range/ECT sensor our of range of Self Test range.
VW DTC = O2 sensor circuit Bank 1, Sensor 1 open.

the VW DTC guide also said that P0116 was ECT sensor out of range.
help also on locating which O2 sensor in Bank1 sensor 1. before or after the cat. Also, whrere is the ECT sensor. (please not in TS housing)
BTW, I did had coolant leaks, changed the coolant pump (mech), radiator, and hoses. Found help here in FAQ.
I also repalced sp wires, and plugs. (Autolite dp set at .040; autolite says .040, VW advisor says .032)
Car did not run for last 3 mos. Old gas. Have about 20 miles since wires and plugs were installed. ( It's only money) It goes really fast again but still has codes. I'm in an emmission inspection (Dallas, TX) area and it must pass or no drive.
Thanks.

Re: P1116 code from AutoZone test.... (VgRt6)

Thank you for the prompt reply and the DIY info.

Do you know which sensor that the P1116 code is referring. Also, why different references give different reasons for the code. Is one generic for domestic cars, and the other specific to VW??

Re: P1116 code from AutoZone test.... (708VR6)

Man, Thanks a lot.
I think. I'd rather change out the O2 sensor, (more $$) than tackle that ECT and thermostat (more time, @$%^&**, soggy clothes).
Since the code is for the O2 heater circuit being open, does that call for replacemnt of the O2 sensor, or could it be a wiring problem that can be tested and/or repaired. Is there a relay or fuse that controls the heater circuit? Can I do a voltage or resistance check of the O2 sensor with a Digital Multimeter?
Sorry for all the questions, but just an ol' country boy trying to make the best choice for time and money.
Thanks, again.
