I'm having a quart of paint mixed for my GTI. Candy White. I always thought the paint code was just LB9A. I'm having the paint mixed at a local store, but double checked paintscratch.com and it comes up with a code of LB9A/B4.

Does the B4 mean anything? is there a difference between LB9A and LB9A/B4? I only told the guy at the paint store LB9A on the phone.

There is probably a handful of variants of CW paint, WHICH should come up depending on what system you look it up in.

When I painted my r32 euro rear last yr reflex silver (LA7W)had I believe 6 different shades.

The variants are not intentional, they are an artifact of imprecise paint mixing and application at the factory. And the variants aren't tracked by the vehicle manufacturers, they are studied and trackers by the paint companies mainly so paint can be mixed at bodyshops.
