I saw someone question a while back whether or not you could transplant that Passat sunshade into a Golf/Jetta. The one with the garage door opener thing. That would be so nice, so I wouldn't have to have that big ugly box thing clipped to my sunshade, and I could program it for 3 garage doors or gates, and it looks nice and OEM.
Well has anyone followed up on that? Is it the same size as the Golf/Jetta ones? Part number? Price?

Re: Passat sunshade with garage door opener? (Jason_R)

As an owner of an A4, I can atest to the convenience of having it. It integrates so well with the rest of the interior. From what I know, the transmitter itself is all housed in the visor. I believe that the only issue you may have in transplanting a visor with the HomeLink transmitter from a Passat is actually getting power to the visor. Like I said before, I believe that all the actual transmitter hardware is integrated with the visor itself.

I was under the impression that power was supplied via battery within the transmitter itself? If not, we could still make it work.
But the main issue for me right now is whether or not the visor will actually fit in a golf. I know other parts of the Passat wont. ie the Oh poop handles, and the sunglass holder. They are different sizes. I was wondering if maybe a similar problem occurs with the visor?
By the way I love how the site automatically wusses up my text by replacing my Shi+ with poop.

Re: Passat sunshade with garage door opener? (Jason_R)

I built a garage door opener into my dash.
I have blanks on my dash b/c I don't have CWP nor ASR.
Taking one of the blanks I drilled a hole for a momentary switch I bought from radio shack. Then using some soldering equip from my dad's office I soldered a set of wires to the switch on the remote.
I had to remove the remote from it's cashing to fit it in the hold of the dash but it fits. So now I have a black button on my dash that opens my garage door.
Works pretty good!
I'd take pics but I don't have a digicam. Although I plan on buying one soon.

No offense, and don't take this the wrong way, but I don't think there is any way you could make that look good. Not to mention the workings behind it are totally.. how can I say this nicely... GHETTO.
Sorry, that's as nicely as I could think to put it.

why would you need a Passat visor? IIRC, the Jetta GLX's come with a Homelink visor... or at least they used to. Just use the MKIV part....

What about the vanity mirror? Is it battery or 12v? If 12v you could use that to power the other visor....just a thought...dont know if it would work.
