Re: Past Redline~!!! (02TurboGTI)

Doesn't the 1.8T have a rev limiter? Seems like a better way to protect the engine than to have a tattle-tale system...

Umm, if you were accelerating and just bounced off the rev limiter, I wouldn't worry, that's what the limiter is there for. If you downshifted from 5th to 1st and pegged the tac, then I would worry. You really didn't give us any information about what happened so no one will really know what's wrong

Re: Past Redline~!!! (bradleyk)

i didn't pay attention if i hit the limiter. i just saw my needle really close to 6500, so i'm not really sure if i hit a limiter or not.. the only good that came out of this was me beating a celica gts coming out of the light from my school parking light

I was joking. As long as you did this after the first 1000 miles or so.... no worries as far as 'hurting' your car goes. But as far as engine codes and stuff go.... I wouldn't worry about that either. It happens.
I accidentally did that to my baby after about 800 miles... burnt up the clutch in the process.... got lucky and had VWoA pay 100% http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
But yeah.... don't stress dude.

UHHHH....I run mine into the red all the time. I used to run my Si to like 8700 (right at the rev limiter). I dont think my car has a rev limiter on it. It just runs out of power. POS! LOL

Re: Past Redline~!!! (MilanoMan)

i remember my other civic's redline too... i always took it up to 9000, according to the tach. those thing have the most inaccurate tachs in the world... gti's are way way way better!

I have hit the rev limiter many times. I now know how to shift right before the limit. Actually I take it easy because I have snow tires on. Look out in the spring!
I want to wear out these tires anyway so I can get some new ones.

you said you were in first and just over accelerated I wouldn't worry. The only way you can go past the red line is if you downshift at to high of an rpm an use the wheel speed to force the engine past the redline at which point it will store a code, and you'll be screwed.
But you said you were just in first no downshifting so I wouldn't worry about it warranty wise.
But if your engine was cold, i'd worry about burning oil later one because running it high and fast on a cold engine is not good!
