Can't seem to get the hang of heel toe, but the pedals are kinda wide in my jetta...i can double clutch a downshift when i am not on the brake...i read about using your foot side to side, but i thinkt hey might be too far apart, even though i wear a size 12...any suggestions, maybe aftermarket pedals that work well? I wanted TT ones for the look, but i'd rather get something that might look a little ricey if it would be more functional

Left foot brake, and heel toe to your clutch.... Thats what I do during autocross... Usually you don't have to worry bout it (if youa re just going in a streight line) but when you have to shift a lot and make a lot of turns, and lots of braking, I just left foot brake... Get it in gear, then use the brake...

yeh,.. i usually leave it in third or forth and brake accordingly. i dislike shifting now. hehe.
oh eyah,.. heel toe makes me sad. haha. my 2.0 has "idle issues" so i gotta be heel/toeing all the time for it not to drop in idle.
u should practice "blipping" when u stop anywhere. VERY good practice.

Well usually when i downshift i let the clutch out and blip and then put it back in and put it in gear and let it out again and give gas, but im not yet coordinated enough do all that while i am braking too

god my mk3 pedals are bad for it. the gas is so much lower down than the brake, that i have no way of gassing unless i slam the brakes

ooh ooh u knwo what else is good practice...

theres this thing called eggshell shift.
basically theres a point in all manual trannies w/synchros that is PERFECT for the poop. i mean,.. perfect. i learned how to do clutchless shifting like this.
basically drive normally,.. but put extra attention to yer rpms and feeling in the tranny. theres a certain spot that if u shift at it,.. it basically "sucks" into the next gear. its so cool,.. it feels uber-smooth. so yeh,.. do that for a while,. untill u get the hang out of it,.. then try going 4-3 downshift or 3-2 downshift w/the same technique,.. no brakes,.. just bump the rpms up a bit. that really helped me w/my driving,.. because ...
smooth = good. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
have fun! hehe

everyone insults my clutch : (
youll get used to it tho, just keep trying,.. eventually itll be 2nd nature!

Well its not that i can't shift smoothly...i'm used to it now, it just takes more effort...when i drive other cars, i'm like "damn, i can shift so much faster and have it still be smooth" with my jetta i have to take my time kinda

u get used to it. its weird,.. i dont even technically heel/toe in my jett anymore. i kinda have my foot inbetween. before,.. since the seat is high and blah balh,.. wisting my knee to heel/toe would kinda hurt,.. so i got used to just puttin my foot inbetween. its kinda "big toe/small toe" now hahaha.
i dont think i would auto-x my jett anymore tho. i dont know why,.. but lately (last month or so) ive been thinking its been time to "retire" it from the harder driving and just drive it normally. haha, im starting to feel bad for it. aww.

Shifting without using the clutch is easy... Run the car up to your normal shift point, and pull the shifter out of gear, and push it firmly down into the next gear, don't force it, but if you get it substantial pressure (Before the RPMs drop too low) and the shifter will go right into the gear...

Back to the question at hand, yes, get some after-market pedal covers. That's what I had to do to close the wide gap between the brake and gas pedal. I just got some generic red ones from GI Joes that clamp on. Work great!
Make sure they are on securely and if the screws poke down too far below the pedal you should cut them down as you don't want your SHOE LACES to get snagged on one

Re: Pedals/Heel Toe (Air_Cooled_Nut)

I got a question about shifting without the clutch... I don't know why but when I rev my engine up to 3200 Rpms, I kick the clutch to the ground and the Rpms don't go down for a couple of seconds. It cuts like a fraction of a second on my 1/4 mile but I'm really wondering what's wrong with it. The dealer says it's normal but I never heard a VW sound like that when you shift it. It sounds like I don't take my foot off the gas when I shift. And when I rev it up to 5000 Rpms, it's like I'm trying to kill her! Any suggestions?

Re: Pedals/Heel Toe ([email protected] freak)

The engine takes a sec to come down from the spin. The flywheel is fairly heavy, so when you take the car out of gear, it takes a sec for the flywheel to slow down (Looks like you don't slow down a bit) Mine actually revs a bit when I push the clutch in.
