Philips HID questions for Cullen: The Headlight God!!!

1451 Views 35 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Cullen
I just purchased a H4 Philips HID kit (off eBay). I have a 2000 Jetta with e-codes. Will the HID bulbs be too long for the H4 housing? Also, will the clamp that holds the bulb in place be able to hold the HID bulb and it's larger wiring harness? Last questions, (I believe I know the answer to this one) when installing, will a hole have to be drilled in the back of the headlight cover? This is for Cullen or anybody who is willing and able to answer it, thanks!!! http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

HIDGolf,
I've read that the glare affect is reduced (or even eliminated) with e-codes and proper alignment.

HIDGolf,
According to your sig, you have a 92 Golf. Wouldn't the headlight assembly for your car be WAY different than my car, 2000 Jetta?

You obviously know more about this than I do, but I'm hearing so many conflicting stories. For every 3 people who totally hate it, there are 4 or 5 who love it. This is a very opinionated issue. Everybody has thier own perception of the kit. And I thank you for yours. I would like to hear from somebody who actual is pleased with the kit and it's light output.
Thanks

HIDGolf, have a

I am aware of the loss of the Hi-beam. But I'm willing to sacrafice it. I live in a pretty urban area in New Jersey where my lights are the last thing on a cop's mind. Everything from chromed-out/sittin 23's Escalades to 94' dented up Saturns are driving around with blinding/badly focused HID kits!

Personally, I just go around them. I hate to be "flashed", so I don't "flash".

So the verdict is: if I have the shield, my beam pattern won't be the greatest, but it will be descent? I'm 99% sure the lights have the shield (the lights are being delivered today). The picture I have of the kit, shows the bulbs with a metal shield around them.

thanks for the "change", HIDGolf.....

I have Jetta IV ecodes, so I have the fogs. I would be more than willing to do that, but how?
Re: Philips HID questions for Cullen: The Headlight God!!! (HIDGolf)

I'm not liking the idea of drilling holes in my grill for lights. But thanks for the idea.
Re: Philips HID questions for Cullen: The Headlight God!!! (HIDGolf)

I just received my kit in the mail and the bulds DO have the metal shield on them. They are Philips bulbs with Philips ballast. The kit comes with all the wiring, relays, switches and double-sided velcro patches, zip ties and screws to secure the ballast in place! The one drawback, they did not include instructions!!! It doesn't matter because I'm taking it to a local shop (who does this kind of work) to have them installed. I'll try to get some "before and after" pictures.
Re: Philips HID questions for Cullen: The Headlight God!!! (Cullen)

If they are made by Hella, then that should make it in even better product, right? This was a brand new kit. I even smelled the connectors from the ballast and the bulbs to see if I could smell any burnt smells or any indications that the kit could have connected and used. It all smelled unused to me. Are there any other test I can give it?
Re: Philips HID questions for Cullen: The Headlight God!!! (Cullen)

When I looked at the bulbs yesterday, I did not observe any powder (I could be wrong) at all. Does this mean they are untested/unused? My ballast look much "newer" than that picture of yours.
Re: Philips HID questions for Cullen: The Headlight God!!! (Cullen)

Thanks Cullen. I will check again for powder just to be on the safe side.
