i'm trying to decide on my new wheels and having some trouble. i was thinking 16x9 at one point but I think I'm too much of a ***** to deal with all the rubbing and issues that come with that. i think 17x8 would be an optimum size, thinking 215/40/17. What do you guys think, that shouldn't rub right? And any pics of MK3s with the RE's on them. Especially that jazz blue 4 door.

Re: Pic request : oettinger RE's on a MK3 (dfinn)

I've only seen a couple of mk3's with these wheels. Here is a pic of a Jetta with them. I think klr bee also has these wheels on his ginster gti. When the search is back up you will be able to find a pic of his car.

how much do they usually cost and where is the best place to get them. I have to get me a 2nd pair of rims. I only have my BBS Rv's now. I like those very much.
Let me know. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

17x8 with a 215/40 will rub for sure unless your at stock height with rolled fenders. If you want your car low, with no rubbing, you need 7.5" or narrower, and no more than a 205/40.

Absolutely. With an 8" and 215, your tires will be right to the edge of the fender. One bump mid-turn, and it's fender crunch time. A friend of mine already did it with this same setup. Definitely go 205/40/17 for a bit better clearance.

I've got 205/40 Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's, 35mm drop, with 17x8 OE's. No rubbing, no problems at all. Oettinger is an exclusive tuner for VW and Audi, so you get perfect fitment, and great strength. Good looking wheels man.

Come back here and tell us what happens when you lower the car.
