Re: Picked up my head yesterday (bajan01)

First of all, Jeremy, you suck.

What's been done to it? And is that a MkIV exhaust manifold I see there?

We'll see who sucks when I put that head on

OBDI head
Stage 3 P&P per www.porttuning.com
Decked 0.040"
TT288 cam
Valves with undercut stems (stock diameter valves)
The 0.460" lift on the cam required the head itself to be clearenced

I had both the Mk3 and the Mk4 exhaust manifolds flowed and the Mk4 flowed better so I will use that one. It also weighed a bit less and the ports matched the gasket better so another reason to ditch the Mk3.
Here are a few pics of the exhaust manifold. At the surface it matched almost perfectly but I put the grinder to the inner weld where the real restriction is. I'll have to put a few tack welds on the outside just incase I got too much of the weld. The grinding was a pain in the @$$ but I should be able to handle one runner a day and finish that this week

Exhaust Manifold 1
Exhaust Manifold 2
Exhaust Manifold 3
The lower intake in the picture in the Mk3 that I am port matching and I will stay with that one for now. This intake setup is temporary so it'll do its job for now

Re: Picked up my head yesterday (bajan01)

wish i had the money to sent my head out (turning wrenches sucks
) oh well, porting gives me something to do at night, plus i've never actually used any of the heads i ported, so i'm excited to see what this one will do

BTW, how much more did the mk4 exhaust manifold flow than the mk3?

Re: Picked up my head yesterday (WolfGTI)

Someday this will be me, posting up about my head being done. Then shortly after that I will have it all installed and I will be a happy fat kid. And as always with my luck a dump truck will run over the front of my car leaving me perfectly unscathed to walk over and stare at what used to be my engine, weeping all the way. I washed my car the other day, then I got rear-ended

Good luck with the car Jeremy, let me know if you need anything. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Here are the numbers that Jose gave me:
Steel tube exhaust manifold...136.4cfm @ 1.5" of H2O...Weight 8.0lbs (Mk4)
Cast iron exhaust manifold.....125.9cfm @ 1.5" of H2O...Weight 12.0lbs (Mk3)
As I said earlier, the Mk4 matches up very well once the welds are ground down a bit so that's another reason to go with the Mk4

I also celaned up one of the ports on the downpipe tonight which was much easier than the manifold

Downpipe 1
Downpipe 2
The only thing I have to decide on now is where to run my single oxygen sensor as I now have a bung in the manifold as well as the downpipe

Bajan, I'll be down next week and take a look. You should have it bolted on be then http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
Also, 16v's should show no noticeable difference in emissions.

How much did they charge you to do the work on the head?

A lot...but I bought a crapload of things from Jose so the bill was quite high

He has prices on the webpage...www.porttuning.com. The ABA headwork prices will be similar to the older 8V headwork prices
