Here are some pictures of what I hope will get my 1.8T into a mid-13-second time slip down the quarter this coming season... here is what you're looking at by the way...
- Yokohama A032R Race Tires on Audi TT wheels (235/40-17)
- Quaife LSD and the ARP Bolt Kit from AutoTech for the LSD
- Sachs Power Clutch
- Fidanza Aluminum Flywheel - AutoTech Starter Ring Gear for flywheel too!
(Note : This is the first aluminum 6-bolt flywheel for our cars - Fidanza has made 10-bolt VR6 apps before - so I am testing it for'em! It weighs under 9lbs with the ring gear - a scant 6lb 2oz without the ring gear - yikes!) Enjoy...

Dayumn Shaka!
Every day I read something new about you or your stuff and I am beginning to be scared of my 1/4 mile time being sunk quickly!
I am also impressed at your level of professionalism with your reviews, mods, etc. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
Nice job, keep up the good work!! http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

DBJ : Thanks man! You and Drew are sort of Heros of mine... but like when I used to play tennis, and they always told me to play "better" players so you can become better than them - I look at it the same way!
If I try to emmulate you guys great - but my goal is not just to do that - but to learn from you and my other peers and over-exceed! So, thanks for the kind wishes... I'll keep ya posted... teehee!
16vracer : Yeah, I used to have a set of those tires on my Dodge Neon (2,400 lbs and turbocharged). The only problem with them on the Neon was, they were a bit too sticky - and my stock clutch "went" because of it - hehe! So in other words, I'm concerned that the clutch/lsd/tire combo might be a bit HARSH at the drag strip and i might break something... we'll see!
wolfsburg2 : HA! Yeah, Drew is my victim.... his goal and mine are virtually the same for '02 - mid-13's with minimal upgrades and nothing outrageous.. the only thing is that I havent a clue what tricks he has up his sleeve - he wont tell me...
But its all for good fun - and to push the VW 1.8T out into the limelight... so, I hope to see a lot more 13-second 1.8T's this year - and a lot of low-13's too! Lets make it happen folks! Remember, its not HOW much power you have, its how you use it! haha...

I just put some 235/40/17s on my today... looks mean.
Pics soon.
Of course, I got no where near the grip of the A032s, but that is what slicks are for

But yeah, the 235/40s look super tough. They should be the tire size that is reccomended on the MK4s. They are a half inch smaller than stock, but who cares? They just look tough http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

hahaha, yah i dont think 13.7 is gonna hold up. My personal goal for the seaon is low 13's without clutch.flywheel. or lsd installed, but we'll have to wait and see.
Shaka, gl man...beautiful parts! When they gonna be installed and tested at the track?! I wanna be the first to know lol. Also, check the website....i might be able to get your car on there....let me know.

More replies..

1.BillyT : Hey Billy.. sorry that I never did sell these wheels to ya.. but it sounds like you found something else anyhow, eh? Yeah, 235mm!! WOOHOO! I don't have slicks myself - so my A032R's are my all-around battle-tire! Then again, I'm not trying to keep up with you - hehe....
rub-a-vee-dub : Check out this site : http://secret-secret.com/turbo/DIY/tirecalc/turbotire.html --- its really cool - you can compare stock vs alternative tire setups and see how they would look. Hope that helps ya - enjoy!
Dobbs : Yeah I had a dyno run late last fall but wasnt happy with the guy - he operated out of Pittburgh in his garage but he didn't test the dyno properly - not putting in ambient conditions, etc - it was really off. I'm going to have a proper dyno done in about a month (after tranny work etc) so I'll post again then! Even tho that dyno day was not good, I got those nice pics heheh...
Silver_1.8T : Drew! Hehe... No LSD? Really?! Hmm... so we REALLY are going about this two totally different ways, huh? Wow... its going to be REALLY interesting... I'm curious... so what tricks you got up your sleeve, poncho? Are those still hush-hush?! hehe...
The parts are being installed this coming week - including my dual intercooler upgrade (testing of the OEM setup are done - so I should have good data too on that hopefully in a week or two). My plan is to have a car "broken in" and "dyno tested" before the month of February is over!
My first track event (read: drag racing) will be at the APR BBQ in March - so if you are there you can see it first hand - otherwise, when I return I'll be sure to post my results. My goal down there is a 13.50!
Oh and yeah, I'd love to be up on your site... drop me an email, Drew, and let me know what you want as far as pix and whatever... I'd love that.. sweet!!

Shaka-
I hope you bought those tires/rims more for road racing then drag racing. That combo must weigh in at 45lbs or so, no? You'd be better off with drag radials on a smaller rim.....I think you're asking for wheelhop with the 17s......

Yeah I bought them for road course racing - that is what they were used for on my previous vehicle and they are great! I've already got a bunch of plans for local road course driver's schools, etc... so yeah!
The nice thing about them is they should far SOMEWHAT decent for a drag race tire since they are extremely sticky - but I must agree, they are hardly the PERFECT or IDEAL drag race tire... the tires are rather heavy, indeed!
I'm trying to make an all-around compromise - no interior removal, not even the spare tire, when I drag race. No roll cage or racing seats/harness, but at the same time maximizing performance within a certain spectrum... we'll see how I do!

quote:

excuse my ignorance, but what is an LSD?

First of all, the one I have is a Quaife unit, sold here : http://www.quaifeamerica.com
Secondly, LSD stands for Limited Slip Differential, which essentially powers the wheel (left/right) that has the most traction - power from the "wheel that slips" over to the "wheel that grips"

Thirdly, read around the web site above... they have some data on there that explains what makes it work so well.. cheers!
