I posted this yesterday in the "Detailing Forum"
There doesn't seem to be much going on there.
Can some one please help?
I bought my Jetta a few years back and it came with this lame pin stripe down each side ending in some fruity swirly thingy near the tail lights. The whole thing seems to be just a magnet for wax to goop up in and looks like Crap. I finally got fed up and tried to pull it off this morning. But it is not comming off easily at all. What is the best way to get this junk off with out killing my paint?

Re: Pin Srtripe HELP!! (DouGuru)

Low heat heat gun or a hair dryer. It all depends on how long the stripe has been on and the quality of the vinyl. It's not easy removing glue from the paint but just use GooGone or something like that. Make sure to wax it immediately http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

pull out the old hair dryer, some patience, and a careful fingernail.
should do the trick http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
i got mine off in the summer heat. be prepared to find a different shade of black under it too.

well my pinstripe experiences consists of a little eraser type spinny deal that connects to a drill.
about 15 bucks from an auto store I beleive.
basically it erases the pinstripe and leaves some weird marks that come off with soap and h2o
i think this product might even be made by 3M http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

if u end up using adhesive remover, make sure u dont do it directly in the sun, cuz the sun will help the chemicals eat at the paint. use a pencil eraser to erase off excess glue and wipe it all down off with soapy water on a cloth towel, then wax it.
i am leaving my pinstripe on, im kinda diggin it.

Re: Pin Srtripe HELP!! (Jetta97GT)

True....do it in the shade. The 3M eraser wheel is cool, but if you are nto carefull you will go through the clear coat. The best thing is to soal it down with some WD40, then work it with a plastic razor blade (which are had to find...) or your finger nails. After it is off, use more WD40 on a rag to get the remaining adhesive off, then some soap and water, then finally use a good cleaner wax....

atleast you got lucky and your pinstripe was actually on TOP of your paint. There are some dubs that have it underneath the clearcoat

rite, ive seen that, that is a manufacturers fault. its not supposed to be like that! either that or it was in an accident and whoever painted it fawked it up
