I had the timing belt replaced and i had the timing was retarded well set back to factory zero degree setting.. then it wasn't fast. so i asked shine (shop where i bought the cams) what the proper setting is for the techtonics cams and they assured me it was advanced 6degrees. Now it pings when you accelerate... so i retarded it a lil bit to 4 degrees advanced.... then it wasn't fast.. so i put it back at 6 and it's fast, but how do i cure the freakin' ping?
i run the high test sh*t 93 octance like i'm supposed to.. what else is there..? another adjustment on the cam gear? might that help some?
thanks
Joe

You might have a bunch of carbon deposits in the cylinder that are causeing hot spots that are pre-igniting and causeing it to ping. You might try running some fuel injection cleaner thru it. Lubro Moly makes some good products similar to this.

Haven't tried it but most of that cheap stuff like Gumout and STP is just mineral spirits. I have ran Chevron w/Techron and it worked ok I guess. I used it more as a preventive deal than anything else. Give the Gumout a shot it can't hurt. But you might check out Lubro Moly I have heard nothing but good things about their products and I am sure they have a product that will help if this is indeed the problem.

The crappy winter gas might also be your culprit. I had the same problem in my car w/ the AMS chip and Autotech 270 cam - it would ping like mad under hard acceleration, especially up a hill. I tried Sunoco Ultra 94, and it helped. It's supposedly the best gas you can buy for a street car, although expensive. Try putting in a 1/2 tank, and see what happens. I would take a bet that in the summer, your car would not ping as badly, if at all. Just an idea.
