pissed with apr dealer

i went to the place to get chipped two days in a row and the first day the guy told me they were to backed up to work on my car i was like okay cool, remind you i made an appointment on sat. Then i show up there today and the guy told me the dude who does the chipping is sick!! I was like WTF. I drove a half hour two days in a row to get turned down and not get chipped???? They can't call anybody and let them know that the dude is sick who does the chipping? By the time all the days have gone by it would have been quicker to send my ECU out fedex....what kind of customer service is this??? I understand that people get sick but at least have the common sense to call the person and tell them not to come in cause the guy is sick. If someone could also clarify that you get a dyno run before and after you get the chip would help to cause the owner told one of my friends that called that you do and i go in and one of service customers says that they don't. So what the hell is going on with this? I'm just a little pissed and disappointed. Sorry just needed to vent.

Re: pissed with apr dealer (blackdub)

First, I know exactly who your talking about. Second, FEDEXing your ECU will be much cheaper. Here's what I actually paid:
$499 for the chip
$149 for the EMCS add-on
$119.25 for the R & R of the ECU
$13.41 for "shop supplies" (complete bullsh1T, btw)
$24.95 for "Hazardous Materials" (WTF?!?)
$23.06 Tax
$828.67 Total

BTW, "dealer invoice" on that software is $383.
FWIW, Chris, the guy who helped me, was great. I shot out there on a Tuesday afternoon and they hooked me up in an hour, but I paid a pretty penny for the conveinence. I'd consider shipping your ECU to APR overnight.
After all that I ended up buying a Laser Red 2000 Audi S4. I talked to APR. They're pretty cool, for a fee they'll allow me to return my 1.8T software and transfer the license to the S4. 306HP! Here we come!
Anyone want to buy a Forge 007P BPV? Virtually brand new. $120.

Re: pissed with apr dealer (norvillerogers)

i'm considering doing that but i can't go with out a car for three days or so.
Re: pissed with apr dealer (blackdub)

For what car and what options are you looking at? Maybe we can work something out...

Re: pissed with apr dealer (blackdub)

Send me a IM and I'll suggest how you can handle this to your satisfaction.
Complaining here is fine, but won't help you unless you cite the "dealer" and put the cards on the table. I'm certain who it is, but don't give up the chip, er ship. The product is seriously worth it. People get sick, but they should have called you.
Re: pissed with apr dealer (blackdub)

I had my ECU shipped out to APR when I was out of the country. My friend told me it took about a week to get back, but that was because I had it done during the week of a holiday. He said otherwise it would have taken 2 maybe 3 days. He said APR is really good with getting them done quickly.
Re: pissed with apr dealer (DILLIGAF Racing)

Yeah, APR said that if I shipped it over night they'd get it back to me in the morning the day after they got it.
Re: pissed with apr dealer (norvillerogers)

Blackdub - Sorry about your troubles!
Stick with them though - APR was great with me, I sent it down overnight, and they sent it back overnight the same day they got it. Sure, they charged me for it, but it was great service.
Re: pissed with apr dealer (LTNGBUG)

It's obvious who it is. $56 shop fees?????
$119 R&R of ECU
They are reaming you, that is a 5min job, pull it yourself- you would if you shipped it. Does the home office know about this Gouging. Send it to auburn http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Re: pissed with apr dealer (jim wilson)

Actually, I've revised my estimate. See above. Not all of the gouging was by the dealer. The state took their share too in the form of taxes.
BTW, I know the R&R of the ECU is easy. BTDT. That's why when I swap the software for my S4 I'm doing the work myself. I won't be in as much of a hurry.

Re: pissed with apr dealer (norvillerogers)

So they charged you $150 ONTOP of what they get comission from each chip? JESUS! I wish I could charge that much! R&R should be no more then $70 that's standard labor rate on imports at 1 hour minimum. Hazardous Materials. The only thing hazardous is the soldering which unless they have an air system to remove fumes I don't see how they can charge that. Maybe a call to the state Hazmat could clear that up and drop the prices a bit. You probably used $.05 in solder for shop supplies maybe another nickle for solder wick.
Re: pissed with apr dealer (blackdub)

I paid $499 for 93 Octane + $149 for second program (Stock). I took my car to the APR dealer, and they did it in less than hour. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Re: pissed with apr dealer (soon2k2gti)

I know I've seen the APR rep down here do it in an hour or less!
Re: pissed with apr dealer (Bug_Power)

My record is 3 TDIs in 45 minutes(all same code) They pulled up and 45 minutes later they were all chipped. I pulled all the ECUs, Removed all the chips, reprogamed them, resoldered them, installed the ECUs, all in 45 minites. I wish I made that much per hour all the time, I magine if I charged another $357 for R&R labor(3 x $119)
A weeks pay for most in 45minutes.

Wow, that really stinks. I'm in your area and was seriously considering the place you're referencing since they are the only local chip dealer of the big three, but now, I don't know.

Re: pissed with apr dealer (KonigGTI)

Just ship it off - it's totally easy to remove/install. Just takes time, but saves a lot of $$$.
Re: pissed with apr dealer (KonigGTI)

KonigGTI. I'm in Herndon. The shop is only a few mins. away. The removal is pretty simple. If you want we can do it over at my house and then we roll over there in my car and you don't get dinged for the R&R charge. I only will charge you some chips (12 oz. Doritos, please. None of this Utz crap.
)
May I also suggest you ask them to fax a complete cost breakdown of chipping and propose this alternate. Then call the mother ship up and find out what the costs are for shipping it out to APR. Then we can find out how much it costs for local vs shipped.

Re: pissed with apr dealer (eggroller)

OR
If you make the decision to do it local. Since you work in Reston (from a prior post) you can probably roll over to my work. Then we could go over and chip it.
Just some ideas.
PS. Did you get a hold of H20Power?
