I have no personnel experience with it but have heard from others it works as advertised. What it does is plugs into your OBD2 port and loads some software to allow DVD playback in motion. The only downside I see is that its not reversible and can't be moved to another car. Once its loaded it can't be unloaded. Not a huge deal but their is no resell value to it.

If I had any dvds anymore I may be interested in this. Pricey though. Wow.

It's not just for DVD playback but for all video in motion playback, including the SD card slots and also AV- in through the MMI cable.
I used it for my 2015 A3 and have installed a chromecast in the armrest so I can stream netflix for trips for my passengers.
This cable worked like a charm.

Aha. I didn’t know that. Much better story there for sure. I didn’t even think of the possibilities.

Still pricey.

I purchased this unit Jan 13 and tried it out Jan 18. It was unsuccessful. Since then I have sent email and called the company and have not got a response. Customer service seems non existent. Just my cautionary tale.

arent you using a ton of data streaming to a chromecast?? awesome idea though!
I haven't used the chromecast that much, so I don't use that much data. But it shouldn't be anymore than you use if you
stream netflix from your smartphone using your data plan instead of on wifi. My A3's simcard is connected as part of my ATT data plan
of 15 Gigs shared and seems to do ok with 2 additional phones also using that allotment.

I used these 2 threads to set up my chromecast in my A3:

http://www.audiworld.com/forums/aud...w-mirror-your-phone-mmi-screen-2888656/page2/

Some people have connected their iphones, apple Tv's or chromecast. They all use the same basic concept to connect but you might need
different connecting wires for whichever route you take.

This is everything I bought for my chromecast install:

Video In Motion For Audi 8V A3/S3 MMI: http://www.emmanueledesign.com/coll...di-mmi-unlock-dvd-playback?variant=2480270209
Chromecast: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1186572-REG/google_gocc2_chromecast_black_2nd_generation.html
HDMI to Composite box: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DSSCBZ8?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00
Down angle USB: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00OHDUFCY?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00
Dual USB cord: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00L4XZY94?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s01
RCA Male Plug to RCA Male Plug: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004HRB7C2?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00
TVPower Mini USB Power Cable for Chromecast: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NDOIZ2K?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00
Goliton? AMI MMI 3RCA Audio Video Cable: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NW6QALW?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s01

Now everything I mentioned you obviously don't have to buy, if you already have USB cables or AV male cables but I didn't want a huge rat's nest in my
armrest so I went with the smaller connectors and cables.

To top it off for a clean install I purchased this Armrest storage box Organizer Tray from ebay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Armrest-sto...015-Audi-A3-/181816687760?hash=item2a551e7c90)
I had to modify it with a dremel so that the USB cable would fit (and the down angled USB cable from amazon is a must if you plan on using this tray). But after that it's a really clean install. You don't have to get the storage box, but with it
when you open the armrest you can't even tell that I have a chromecast setup under it because it hides it all, plus gives me a place to keep all my spare change and hold my wallet or a phone.
I'm currently at work but hopefully tonight I can post pictures of the setup.

Nice! Oblique, what else did you have to use in order to connect the Chromecast?

Also, will this SW mod causing any issues when the car is taken in for service?
I haven't as of yet taken my car into service but it is coming up soon. But another member from Audiworld
mentioned that the dealership had to update something and he lost the VIM feature, but all he had to do was re-connect the
VIM cable from emmanuele design and everything was back to normal again.

****
Also forgot to mention that my main reason for this originally was so that I could mirror my Moto X's phone screen
so that I could use the google maps or waze since I prefer that over the built in MMI Navi. But the connection always
drops when I try to mirror it, but it works fine for just casting from youtube or netflix. Though this could be from my
phone which is almost about 2 years old now (Moto X 2nd gen 2014) I plan on getting a faster phone sometime this year maybe a nexus 6P.
If you have an iphone though you will be able to mirror your screen no problem you just have to buy the lighting to hdmi cable from apple.
