Please help me...heater core Q&A

373 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  VR66m!
So my heater core started spitting antifreeze onto the carpet of my car...in fact there is a puddle. so i went down to the VW Dealership and asked them if they would run my vin number to see if my car is under the recall. they said they showed no recall under my heater core and that no work has been done on it in the past. I need to know from experience is there anything that i can do in this case? also is there a mandatory recall and is auburn VW Dealership just trying to get out of doing the work...Please help thx

Re: Please help me...heater core Q&A (Razzy)

There is something you can do. There is a website (im sorry I dont have the link, hopefully someone else does) saying they HAVE to do the recall, or call VWoA and report them and they can get into trouble. Watch out though, if they are forced to do the recall, make sure they dont do a $hitty job putting your car back together (since it requires taking the dash out). I've seen it happen before. Hope this helps.

Whats te number for VWOA to call, mine just went while preparing it for Florida. Thank god for having 2 cars. Please help us out here, i want it fixed. Yes i tried the CCA page too, it was very vague as to what to do in this situation.

Re: Please help me...heater core Q&A (G6660)

I just had my heater core replaced in my SLC. My understanding is that the recall is no longer open (i.e. they don't have to do the work for anyone). However, there is an open recall (at least for SLC) for some coolant system work. If your dealer is a good guy, he will call VWofA and tell them that even if he does the open recall work, the problem will persist because it's actually the heatercore that is leaking. VWofA may then authorize him to do all the work (recall and heatercore). However, I don't think there are any guarantees.
