This is probably a dumb question, but does anyone know how to remove the shift knob from an 03' gti ? Thanks in advance...

1. lift up the shift boot
2. cut off the brass ring around the base of the knob
3. pull straight up.
you're done.

Once you have removed the knob Its a really easy install, the only peice you need other than ur New Shift knob, is a brass ring, Parts Dept. VW Dealer,
Price ( Roughly $1.65 )

hmmm..... Any way to do it but keeping the brass ring?

I don't think so. Just go to a hardware store and get an o-ring hose clamp (the ones you can tighten with a screwdriver).
