The Los Angeles Auto Show will give many true-blue Volkswagen fans reason to celebrate. At the show, Volkswagen is bringing back its popular Jetta GLIña model designed to appeal to the true VW driver enthusiast who wants the power, performance and dynamic style of the automakerís best engineering but does not necessarily want to buy a long list of standard luxury equipment.
The Jetta GLI will soon hook up with the upcoming GTI VR6 to become Volkswagenís highest powered V6 car ever. Using the highly acclaimed VR6, Volkswagen has added four valves per cylinder to this engine, boosting its output from 174 horsepower to 200 horsepower. Just as importantly, the engine creates 195 lbs. ft of torque at 3,200 rpm.
Both the new Jetta GLI and higher-powered GTI, which both go on sale this May, offer the first six-speed manual transmission in the Jetta or GTI model line up. Built for ultimate driver control, the six-speed manual allows the driver to pick the perfect gear and rpm range for his or her driving style or situation. Uniquely, the six speed offers two final drives in fifth and sixth, allowing for optimal performance control and economy.
ESP is also standard in this GLI model and the GTI VR6 to come.
As you would expect, the Jetta GLI is dressed for performance, coming standard with special 17-inch alloy wheels, dual exhausts with chrome, GLI badging, special cloth sports seats, a three-spoke leather steering wheel, leather shift knob, boot and handbrake.
Colors will include Black Uni, Reflex Silver, Galactic Blue and Tornado Red. It will be priced at $22,950.

no, it's not every vw-entusiasts dream. And I'm sorry to say it but the vwvortex article pretty much sums it up. There is nothing on this car that hasn't been seen on others except for the engine, tranny, and esp. But even those arent really surprises anymore...

ALL VW's have those problems (well most anyhow). I doubt that they have fixed their quality on the GLI, therefore it will be prone to suffer the same breakages as the previous models. The car is nothing new and nothing that couldn't be recreated by taking some rims off of a GTI. Price on it is a good deal though considering that you get the new engine, but other than that, I don't see that car as anything special.

Re: Please tell me every little detail you know about the new GLI (SAPJetta)

Sorry that you've had so many problems guy!... However, we on vwvortex are not ALL VW's!... we really only represent a small portion of the NA market even!!! Not to mention the world market!!
I haven't had 1 issue w/ my car yet! ... and I drive my car VERY hard too!!
Don't put this bad name over the entire VW company!... Not cool!
All the problems that some VW's have can and will be fixed w/ a trip to your VW dealer... Some may have issues w/ their dealers... well, then go to a different 1 if they are not giving good service! This holds true for any car company!!

Re: Please tell me every little detail you know about the new GLI (Spiro SU)

I think I may have been misunderstood in my last post about problems with the cars. I was in no way complaining. All my problems have been fixed quickly and easily and were mostly small anoyances rather than major problems. I had a 99.5 and only had a broken glovebox. My new one has had a few more problems, but nothing major.
My point was that many VW's suffer from window regulators, MAF failure, O2 sensor problems, etc. Doesn't mean it will happen, but it might. Most likely, they haven't fixed it on the new ones either. I am in no way saying that VW is a bad company because I love the cars. I wouldn't have owned them and bought more if I had a problem with VW. Just be aware that even on the new cars, they are going to have the possibility of problems. But then again...that happens with any company.
