I have the opportunity to buy one as my second car but I know absolutely nothing about them other than the fact that they came with a 1.8L motor. Can you tell me what I should look out for? I am going to check it out tonight...

Can you tell me what the specs are for the 1984 Rabbit though? Because on the site its the 1982 specs. Did all Rabbit GTI's come with the same engine? If so, what is the compression ratio and injection? mechanical or hydro head? For the tranny, I wonder if in 1984 they changed the R&P to 3.94 from the 3.89 in 1982.

how tough is this motor? Should I be concerned with 189K miles on it?
with such a head can one put a huge cam and expect good results or is the injection a limiting factor?
