I've seen a few car manufactures supplying the cheap version of sat nav using a pocket pc like IPaq, anyone know how much a kit like this goes for?
Similar to the one advertised on the current Land Rover Discovery.
I use Copilot with an Ipaq2210 with a bluetooth GPS receiver for true portability.
So far I have used it in Perth, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne without issue. I like the voice assist so you do not need to look at the screen continuously.
I bought from HiTec Gadgets Australia - Stephen Wiseby who was very helpful.
He may direct you towards newer PDA such as Asus which may be more powerful and with more memory.
Hope this helps
Looking at buyquick.com.au...
The bottom of the range iPaq that is compatible with the GPS receiver etc is about $650, but the GPS, expansion jacket, map software and map data puts the total price up to about $1500.
Also ask http://www.gpsoz.com.au, see if they can do you a deal. They have complete packages.
I recently purchased Travroute Copilot Live Laptop 7 (ie the software that runs on a laptop rather than a Pocket PC) from them, at a promotional price that was non-trivially better than retail.
