Thank search for being down since i know this topic has been beaten to death like an old horse.
What im wondering is Where do i get one , how much do they run, and if you have one, how is it holding up?
I converted to the older type caged front mount .

Re: Poly front motor mount insert (vokalwagen87)

They are $41.99 each, SPA Technique has them in stock as of about 4 days ago, and from what I've read, they work very well. A bit new to figure out how well they hold up, but after holding one in my hands, they seem very good quality. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
*edit* - they dont show them on the site, but they are Powerflex brand from the UK

Yes, SPA had them on November 19th, when I ordered mine, as well as Powerflex rear beam bushings, so I can completely eliminate rubber at the beam mounts

Part number PFF85-255 for the front mount http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Not to be negative or anything, but I'd wait until you press the old mount out before getting stoked. That thing is a real pain! After that, enjoy.

Re: Poly front motor mount insert (Big Fundamental)

My newly aquired 88 GLI is going to need new mounts, too, it seems like. When I am stopped and hit the gas, there is an obvious clunk, like the engine is shifting from leaning from one side to the other. But, I still have questions:
1) the insert, like pictured above, does this go into the stock mounts that I already have? It looks like there's three mounts for the engine, right? 2 for the actual engine and one for the tranny? Is this insert just for the 2 mounts???
2) What's going to be involved in installing these? I build jeeps, so I'm pretty much at home in the garage. However, small cars is a completely different world then big jeeps.
EDIT: Is there any sort of writeup out there on replacing the motor mounts? With pictures of the old ones and the new ones???

I'm pretty sure that only 85-87 had mounts pictured above, i could be wrong. However, if I am right, you have the "flying saucer" stlye front mount like me. It is pretty simple to replace mounts.
Front mount: Jack up motor just enough to take some weight off of it, remove the top bolt that holds bracket to mount, then get under and undo the 2 bolts that hold the mount to the crossmember. Installation is reverse.
Rear motor mount: Keep jack where it is, remove the bolt that goes through the mount. Then there are 3 bolts that hold mount to bracket on the engne. Intstallation is reverse.
Transmission mount: I place the jack under the transmission, right on the bellhousing. Some people have a different appraoch to this but, this is mine. Undo bolt that holds trans to mount. There are 2 bolts that hold the mount into the subframe, I guess you'd call it. Installation is reverse.

Re: Poly front motor mount insert ('91GTI8V)

So, if those poly mounts are not for my paticular engine... what kind of mounts (solid rubber or poly or stock) do I look for. I wonder if I have to do all the mounts at once or if I should spend some time to see if I can narrow the problem down to just one or two of the mounts....
