Polyurethane & Graphite bushings ?

577 Views 7 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  smersh
I might not remember what my brother told me correctly, but is there such a thing as a graphite-impregnated polyurethane bushing?
-PolyGraph? GraphLite??? I could swear I heard something about Energy Suspension having crappy service & delivery, but they had graphite/poly bushings????
Any info would be appreciated. Thought these might be better b/c no white lube, squeaking less, etc.
Cheers.

Re: Polyurethane & Graphite bushings ? (smersh)

I just bought a complete set of Prothane bushings from JC Whitney (of all places). They carry a complete set (minus swaybar bushings) for peanuts. I'm goin to install them when I do my engine swap. For the price I think they're definitely worth it.

Thanks for the reply.
Yeah, I heard about those too. Like 55 or 65 bucks. Is that just for the front?
Thought it would be neat b/c supposedly the PolyGraph bushings act less like a bushing and more like a bearing.
If I couldn't find those, I was looking at the JC Whitney Prothanes, too. Price is right.
My car needs like EVERY single bushing replaced. Even the muffler and antenna bushings.

You put those polies in with white lube, right?
Cheers.

That's what I bought. The Prothane bushes Whitney sells are the same as anyone else's. It includes front control arm, steering rack, rear strut, and rear trailing arm bushings (IIRC). You can look at Prothane's site for a more complete descritption. Prothane's tech guys are VERY friendly and willing to answer your questions, by the way. Call JC Whitney, tell them you saw a catalog price of $55 and they'll give it to you.

ERRRRRR WRONG jonnyboy they have a 6 peice poly swaybar kit. I got one sittin in my garage. JC whittney was great, they had all the bushings instock execpt for the upper rear strut mounts.
I go everthing, execpt for the "adjustable bumpstops" I didnt see why I would need poly bumpstops, and why they should be poly.

You caught me
I misspoke, I meant to say SUBFRAME bushings, not SWAYBAR bushings.

Re: Polyurethane & Graphite bushings ? (smersh)

I have graphite bushings in my '83 GTi. These bushings are HARD. Coupled with race springs and Bilstein Sports it is very direct and unforgiving; however, driver input is immediate. They do require frequent lubrication, and if you're not it, they will squeak. Like any modification done to your car, you must evaluate how much 'compromise' is made in the quest for performance.
Re: Polyurethane & Graphite bushings ? (Big Fundamental)

TOUCHDOWN!
Hey, thanks Big Fundamental!
Exactly what I wanted to know. Like I said before, my ride needs like every bushing conceivable replaced.
I know these are a bit uncommon, but so glad to find an owner with real feedback on them.
Thanks very much
