Popping noise from seat?

561 Views 6 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  schrei32
I've got a 2002 GTI and I get a popping noise from the seat whenever I accelerate (put force on the seat) kind of like its not seated correctly. I've tried looking for any cause and tried closing it w/ force (easy access type of seat for the back seat entry)...has anyone else had this problem? I would really rather fix it myself than go to the dealer. TIA

Do you have lumbar support up?
My seat makes sounds too but it comes from the spring that supports the lumbar support. Couple of pop sounds then it goes away.
Is that sounds like the problem you are having?

I've tried it with the lumbar all the way up and all the way down. Sounds more like its coming from the bottom of the seat!

Me too. I'll try to tighten a few nut & bolts this weeken and see if it goes away.

This is a problem I have had since buying my '01 Jetta. I asked the dealer to look at it and they pretty much told me there was nothing they can do. I opened a case with VWoA and after 3 weeks and 4 phone calls, they told me to go pound sand! "It is not a safety issue or a reason for concern. It is only an inconvenience." Replacement seat rails DENIED!
Great customer support VW!

Yup....mine did the same thing. I took it into the dealer and they told me it was a faulty seat frame. They ordered a new one and I had it within a couple weeks. Covered under warranty. It doesn't matter if it is an annoyance or not, it is faulty and is covered under the bumper to bumper warranty.

i'm getting my seat frame replaced soon.. will let everyone know how that turns out... service manager originally recommended it and when i mentioned others on our forums having the issue he actually listened and asked if that helped...
i will update afterwards... cheers mates
