(I did the searches, I need more information)
Steering to the right is harder then steering to the left.
I checked my power steering fluid level....and it was just a little bit over the MIN line.
Is this okay? Should the level exactly be in the middle between MIN and MAX?
If I need more ps fluid the manual says that you cannot just add it....so then what else has to be done? flush it totally then add it??

thanks,
eddie.
p.s. i thought that if u had ps fluid problems, then steering would be harder both ways?

Re: power steering fluid.... (eddiemiller)

I am pretty sure that all A3s use the special CHF PS fluid, so DONT use DOT fluids. If you cannot find the CHF brand fluid (in a green can...hard to find, try a VW specialist place) go get the stuff from the dealer. It is really expensive, but you can just add it, it won't hurt as long as you use the correct stuff.

Re: power steering fluid.... (Guvs97JettaGT)

im guess the level the power steering fluid should be at is right in the middle of the MIN and MAX line, in the ps dipstick?
The level in my car right now, is just a little bit above the MIN line...is this okay??

Re: power steering fluid.... (lucaq)

hmmm, i toped mine off with some motomaster stuff a month or so after i bought my car last march.... (my previous car was a 89 chevy cavalier) looking at the bottle now looks like i only put about 50ml in, hope i didn't hurt anything, think i should flush and refill guys?

edit: bentley says "use only volkswagen hydralic oil G 002 000 in the power steering system. Do not use ATF or other non-approved types of power steering fluid. If the wrong fluid is used, power steering components may fail.
also says "NOTE-If the hydralic oil level has dropped to hte MIN marking the power steering shoudl be checked. It is not sufficient to just add hydralic oil"
so go to yer dealer and get some proper fluid part #"G 002 000" and flush er (anyone got instructions on doing this?)
-----------
DO NOT USE MOTOMASTER PS FLUID
the motomaster bottle is marked
for vehicles with GM 9985010, Chrystler MS-5931, Ford M2C-128D, AMC 4060 and volkswagen TL-VW-570-26 specifications. DO NTO USE in honda systems where only "honda" fluids are specified, or Audi/Volkswagen systems where G 002 000 is Specified. CHECK YOUR OWNERS MANUAL.
bottle has a green sticker on it marked as "power Steering Fluid" - ideal for most domestic and import vehicles, prevents rust, resists foaming
DO NOT USE THE MOTOMASTER STUFF
