I am planning on adding an aftermarmarket HU to my Beetle's monsoon system. Will either the unit's preamp voltage or internal power output affect sound quality?

the pre amp output will only make a difference if you are running through an amplifier, the output amps ya know like 45*4 or someothing like that is what you wanna look at

either way higher is better. if you go with a high powered head unit, such as an alpine cda-7875 (60wattsx4) your speakers can only handle about half that, so it puts your listening level lowere in the radios "power band" and if the radio dosent have to work hard to produce the sound then it will have less distortion, and in effect sound better.
