I'd say that's your problem right there...an LSD usually saves your axles by evenly distributing the power instead of sending it all to one wheel (in your case: axle)
get some Raxles or Drive Shaft Shop axles; they're guaranteed for life and handle more torque than stock.

I'd lower your boost until you can afford the axles or LSD. I've been lucky with my stock axles w/ Peloquin, so far, but I know I need an ATP gear set and, at least, raxles. That option being around $3K, which sucks, but is the price one pays for reliability.
But to answer your question...get a LSD first. You can do the axles any time and without removing the tranny.
