Problems w/Seat replacement - help....

351 Views 5 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Jetta32696
After months of searching, I finally got my hands on a rear leather Jetta seat. The problem is, I have a rear bench, and the leather has the 60/40 split. The mounting bolts for the bottom don't line up, as there are two additional screws needed. Any ideas on how to modify to fit? Also for the fronts, I have 98 GTI seats, without the seatbelt thingy, and I can't get it off my original seats...how do I get it off, or how much would it cost to just buy 2 new ones from the dealer??? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Rear: If I recall you have 4 tabs but only two holes (outer holes). There's a surprise under your rear bench. Its a plastic cap, about 3" to 4" long that covers two holes where the inner tabs screw in. You'll need to buy the screws for it though. Also -- see if you can score the center brackets from a dub with a 60/40 slpit.
Front: Use some penetrating lube to free up removing your seatbelt holders. They DO come off with asocket wrench and vice grips

When I was switching out my seats I ran into the same problem. The best way to get the seatbelt "thingy
" off is to get a pair of vice-grips to hold the piece in place so it doesn't swivel. Then get your standard socketwrench and your lugnut wrench. The end of the lugnut wrench is open, so slip the end of it over your socketwrench to make a fakie breaker-bar and give you more leverage. This worked for me.
