Programming Homelink.

I'm having a hard time programming the homelink in the touareg. I'm following the instructions for rolling code garage door openers but not getting any luck. Is there a secret to it?

Cliff...there should be an 800 # in your Owner's Manual for the HomeLink folks...Customer Service/Tech Support...Try them tomorrow. There are so many different Garage door opening systems hard to trouble shoot from here...By the way HomeLink will do a whole lot more as well, depending upon what electronics you have set up in your home...

I had this exact same problem yesterday. When programming the button to your remote, hold the remote in front of the homelink buttons (more toward the windshield) by about 2". In my car (V6 non-NAV), I held the remote where the compass is located.

I'll try it, thanks.
Re: Programming Homelink. (S4inSoFla)

Anyone know if that is enabled without the key being in the car? I have one like that and I find it a worry.
Re: Programming Homelink. (NMoore)

No, it is not enabled unless the key is in the ignition and in the 'on position'.

It took a while but I got it programmed. I had to get a new battery to increase the power. You also have to move the remote around a little bit to find the right place. What worked for me was about 2 inches behind the homelink very close to the roof. When you see the amber light flash quickly, you've got it.
If you've had no luck for a few tries, better to press 1 and 3 buttons to clear the system out before trying again.

I was pulling my hair out until I just moved the garage remote using a slow clockwise manner, holding it around 2" away from the buttons. It worked in seconds with my two remotes.

Thanks for the advice. I'm in a Touareg press car this week and it was driving me crazy! I program Homelinks in different cars all the time, but the Touareg wouldn't take.
I even tried the method that the new Audi A8 requires -- you hit the Homelink button then hold your existing remote near the headlight (yes, outside the car!) until the parking lights flash to confirm the program.

Yeah, and I imagine standing in front of the car aiming a remote at it wouldn't look too good to the police department's DUI patrol either!

I found this .......
HomeLink is seamlessly integrated into the interior design of both vehicles. The HomeLink system consists of a control panel and a transmitter unit.
The control panel blends into the overhead console of both vehicles. It is operated with three HomeLink buttons.
The HomeLink systems’ transmitter unit is mounted in the right-hand side of the Phaeton’s rear view mirror housing. In the Touareg, the transmitter unit is located in the overhead console, directly in front of the third sun visor

Thanks mml7. It finally worked! first, key must be in and place your garage transmitter where the compass is located. And follow the manual instruction!!!
