Well EIP and myself tried to do our best to keep this project under wraps but mostly my fault (and TOM
) we couldnt help to leak some pictures of it prior to the EIP GTG.
I think I realized early on in this project that pretty much nothing can be done in the VW scene that blows everyones mind. There is always going to be that group that hates the car you chose to build and the decisions you made along the way. WhiteR32 set the standard for the rest of us to follow so a color change was the only way to go on this project.
Needless to say alot of blood sweat and tears went into this project. Pardon the cliche but its literal

This car was built in my garage at my house with the help from Tom, Kris, and Jon from DUBAUDI and then EIP for the mechanicals. The paint completed by myself.
Its not perfect by no means and I will be the first to point out all the flaws. But considering from start to finish it took about 1 and 1/2 months to complete...I'd say im very happy with the results.
Special thanks to all these people and enjoy some of the build pics.

I love it so far! Got any more pics of the black roof? Im thinking of doing mine black or BMP (It has to be repainted due to some damage) I want black because it will be easier than trying to blend reflex silver w/ the rest of the car. May be do a black hood to match

Russ i gotta say i am very impressed. I am really digging the black and porsche grey theme that you have going on. the black roof, with the blk wheels, mirrors, grill and decals really give the car a beautiful look. and after reading this thread and seeing the before and after pics, im amazed at the transformation. i havent really been a big fan of the JTI but i really like yours. props on the DIY, i wouldnt even know where to start. i am glad i was one of the fortunate ones who got to see the R close up and personal in person. the custom gauge in the vent is sick. very clean look. not only does it look good but with a eip stg1 turbo it also performs! what type of suspension are u running? i noticed the brakes calipers painted silver http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
you dubaudi guys got some sick Rs. i love the BMP all euroed SC sitting on OZS...that has always been one of my favorites on the tex, and was thrillled to see it in person. you guys keep dubbin...great gruppe u got there http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif glad to see the project came along as you expected and i think it is a very clean R done very well http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif remember my offer is still available...if u ever need another BMP R32 for a vid, shot me a pm...

Re: project F32 ( euro 20v)

As someone who has sort of been involved in this project from day one...let me give Russ some credit that he is not taking. First off, let me apologize for Russ for putting him through 1.5 months of hell by egging him on to do this. At first it was just a spur of the moment "holy crap I wanna paint my R" type of comment, but I didn't let it die, and knowing how easy it is to get Russ to do stuff to his car, I knew we were in for a ride.

We started with a full two day weekend to gut the car. Door panels, trunk, hatch, hood, fenders, engine bay, everything came off. Then Russ began his part of the project, the paint! For all who don't quite exactly realize...this car was painted in a garage in upstate New York, during the WORST part of pollen season (can you say dust nightmare!?). There was no expensive spray booth, no down-drafts, and barely enough ventilation. All that was used was a hose to wet down the area and some plastic sheets. Needless to say, Russ' skills at painting really shined given the circumstances. Sure, there was a flaw here and there, the occassional wandering dust particle, or even some bugs who just liked the color so much they had to dive-bomb into the wet clearcoat.
Sure, Russ says there's flaws, but let me tell you, I've seen cars come out of top notch body shops that don't look this good. The "flaws" he's talking about are barely noticeable and to me represent the hard work and effort put into getting this car done in time for the EIP GTG.
Then there was the re-build weekend, putting it all back together. Myself, John, and Kris worked like slaves putting everything back together while Russ patiently wetsanded, buffed, compounded and polished the freshly painted panels to bring them to life. There was roadblock after roadblock, from a missing bolt here, to a problem with the paint there. But all the time, we just laughed, kept drinking those beers, eating some Dom's (DOOOMMMMM'SSSSS!!!), and having fun.
Sure there will be people who don't like the finished product. Some hate the paint, some hate the black wheels, others will point out the smallest flaws in the paint so that they can get some satisfaction out of knowing it's not 100% perfect. But to me, this car is perfect in every single sense of the word. It shows what happens when you unleash 4 friends with some free time, a few cases of beer, endless 24-cut pizzas, some good tunes, and an open garage.....all on a 2 year old $30k Volkswagen.

Special thanks also go out to Bobby, Kyle, JJ, Rich, and the entire crew at EIP for their innumerable contributions to this project. Without their help, we would have been screwed on many occassions (like 3am tire mounting and balancing for example
). I know it's been said before, but they are truly a class act. You really get the sense that these guys are in it for the love, which is rare these days. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

The color is yet to be named. It's basically a flat gray. We wanna give it a cool name, but have been too busy rushing to get done so we haven't had time to think of one...lol
