Well I finally picked up a Scirocco. E-bay is a good thing

The good:
2 owner car - 1st owner for 17 years, 2nd owner 1 year
Great clean car fax - No reported accidents
Great leather interior
Crackless dash http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
Engine has 65K miles (120K on body)
No body repair or fixes
Non modified - not a one aftermarket part (won't last long

)
The Why?
Well .... I had a 86 8v for 7 years (93-00) and a year after finding it a new home I was wanting another one. The last 2 years I have been looking for the right car to purchase going back and forth between a GTI or Scirocco. I saw this car on E-bay one evening so i started bidding and surprisingly I won.

I drove down to FL on 9/30/06 to pick up and while driving back in the 1st few miles I was asking myself what the heck did I get into.

The car currently drives like an air mattress in a tornado

. But all can be fixed all it take is time and money.
The saga begins. 18 year old car.... 17 years with its 1st owner, 1 year with its second and hopefully many more with it's 3rd.
Current plans for the Scirocco:
Fix it up to be in 100% mechanical working condition. Keep it as a daily driver and tastefully modify the car for driveability.
The post below is one where I will be listing things that I have repaired, replaced or modified.

FIX IT LIST
Bumpers need to be leveled out (just bugs me)
Drivers seat needs to be recovered - Added 4/19/10
AC Condenser has a hole in it - from a screw driver that slipped :banghead:

MODIFICATIONS CURENTLY WAITING TO BE INSTALLED
New ST Coilovers

FIXED LIST
Passenger side window regulator - Fixed for a 4rd time.
Seal/Gasket - water leaking around HVAC fan and air box in rain tray - sealed and caulked.
Ignition switch - replaced
Rear washer pump - glued back together
Rear bumper structure replaced and reinstalled - used unit - primed and painted
Broken passenger mirror - fixed - replaced
Door cards glued back together and cleaned
Turn signals/hazard lights - replaced fuse box - fixed
Rear deck lid (missing) - black - purchased
Replaced rear hatch shocks - tired of the thing hitting me in the head
Pioneer Stereo, Alpine 4"x6" speakers and Bazooka tube 6" sub installed
BBS wheels w/new tires (changed to 15" corrado steelies)
New motor and tranny mounts
Bilstein w/H&R springs installed (replaced with fk 60/40 on 3/8/08) (replaced with JOM)
Headlights fixed - Bad light plug - rewired all 4 using new plugs
Euro Lights Installed - Now I can see
AC fixed and recharged - repalced the condensor and dryer newer lines installed - Brrrrrrr frosty
Mk3 (Chinese) door pulls - installed
Front Autotech upper strut bar - installed
Rear Autotech upper strut bar - installed
Triple gauge pods need to be installed (volt, oil temp, oil pressure)
Steering column bearing

Items needing repaired that was a surprise
Rusty fuel tank (inside) - Rust through the entire fuel system clogging filters and eating up a fuel pump - Had to replaced fuel pumps, reservoir/filter, fuel accumulator and all rubber lines in the rear of the car.

Well a little progress on my rocco....
Gave the car it's 1st bath today and dropped it off at the shop for new parts

Slight progress.
Purchased some new parts which should arrive tomorrow:
New Fuse box,
New hazard switch,
New turn signal stalk and New hatch pistons.
Keep that darn thing from hitting me on the head

Rear bumper support structure from his parted 88 - Wire brushed and primed today.
A red passenger side mirror to replace the white one I put on earlier.
After priming the supports one more time and giving it a nice black paint job the rear bumper should go back on sometime this week.

Good progress to report. Stereo is finally going in and the door cards have all been glued back together and looking good. Today I installed new speakers in the doors and ran new wires.
Yesterday I tore into the passenger side window regulator and cleaned and relubed the cable. Removed the motor and clean the contacts and reassembled and it worked. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif Check one more thing off the list.

I had to mount the new Alpine's from behind to allow more room for the tweeter. All turned out well. The rear ones I had to use the spacer that came with the speakers also to give a little more room under the stock speaker grills for the tweeter. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Still working on my ride.
Rusty stuff still being cut off the car. Bilstein shocks and H&R springs have arrived waiting to be installed. Now looking for some wheels to replace the 2 bent tear drops. It's a slow go but still hopfull to get this baby on the road before xmas
