Well I think it's time for a little update. I took a long time to gather the motivation to finish up the last welding. But finally I did and now I have started put the car together again.
First some pics from the underside of the car.

The edge of the fenders where in really bad shape so I cut away the inside of the fender and made a "V"-shape edge instead of the "L"-shape.

Another one with the gas tank installed.

Rear axle painted

I bought some coilovers with strut bearings. Took the bearings apart, cleaned them and gave them som fresh grease.

Installed

Together with the coilover

Coilover installed

With adaptor to fit Corrado 280mm discs.

Closeup of adaptor

Moving on, I installed the gearshift mechanism

Next, I needed some new fuellines. I did it the same way as on my fathers rallycars.

Overview of the interior.

So, now I'm doing the brake lines.
There is still a bunch of stuff to do but atleast now it's fun. I'm really tired of fixing rust and I will try to avoid using the welder for a little while

What kind? Custom I guess
It is not going to be a rally car, though I am using a lot of parts and ideas from rally cars. It is going to be (I hope...) a fun car to take to the track/auto-X and twisty roads.

Question: How and what are you using to weld everything together?

I am using a mig welder (Esab).

Very admirable results, your attention to detail is great. very impressed, can't wait to see the finished product.
What are the chances you could give a little description of how you assembled that shifter mechanism, i'm curious but not trying to rip off your idea.

I'll take some close-up fotos and post them with a description in a couple of days. It's hard to explain with just words. I should mention that I have not built this shifter mechanism, but its no hitech job. When I have some time (in like 10 years or so
) I'm gonna make a prettier one. It could easily be copied at a low cost.

They are Sellholm Tuning's strut bearings, a Swedish company. The standard ones really sucks.

Aw nice. DMS is just another shock company for rally shocks. I've got the non-threaded body 40mm Bisteins on my rally car. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Re: Project Rust Part 2 (Jetta2dr)

Today I have finished the brakelines, just missing some clamps. Installed the rear axle to.
Now it's time to eat and them back to the garage

Re: Project Rust Part 2 (jooe)

Some new pics!
Rear axel installed

Fitting the seat

Closeups of the shift mechanism, sorry not good quality...

Ran into some problems making the brackets for the seat, need to do some more thinking before I get the seat to sit just right where I want it. Got frustrated and realised I needed to do something else, so I tore apart the engine. So now the lightening, shaving, porting, polishing etc can begin
