Hello everyone,
I'm a brand new owner of a lightly used Beetle whose owner's manual was missing. What weight of oil is recommended for 1.8T? I live in Southeast US.
Y'all bear with me while I am on the steep part of the VW learning curve...
Thanks

Re: Proper engine oil weight?? (ExSHO)

Welcome. The owner's manual specifies 5W-40 or 5W-30 weight, either synthetic or conventional oil. Changes are spec'd at 5000 miles or 6 months on the 1.8T.
I don't understand how people lose their owner's manuals on a new car....mine stays in the glovebox. It's a very detailed set of booklets in a 3-ring notebook, covering the maintenance schedules, warranty, operating features and tips. You might want to buy one from the dealer.

Most here run with Mobil1 5W30 ior 10W30 I think. I bleieve manual states 10W30, but does not specify dino or synthetic.
Synthetic is probably better because of the heat generated in the turbo.

Wrong info, the manual states 5w40, but most use 5w30 because of availability

Go Valvoline 5w-40 if you're hitting the track.....better protection at high temps....
