.. that I would put the newest issue back on the store shelf and decide that $9.25 is too much to pay to view a bunch of crap. The "scene" has ventured off track and has become a mix of USA mini-truck and ******* Honda meets German metal. I just can't bring myself to participate any longer.. the styles have just gone to hell and, frankly, it's actually embarrassing. This revelation is not an overnight thing - i've watched it build for quite awhile now and it finally hit it's limit. PVW: you'll be sorely missed in my house. I've also quite buying VW Scene International and once my subscription to VW SPEED expires, they are gone too.
Let me say that I have always been the biggest PVW fan - I have every issue from 1996's #1 up to last months issue. I am based in the USA but still have 2 of the UK only T-Shirts that were given away with UK subscriptions. My car occupied 4 or 5 pages in the January 2001 issue. My garage is lined with what could possibly be the largest German VW magazine collection in the USA - I also have almost complete sets of VW SPEED, VW Scene (from 1993 onwards), Gute Fahrt (1997-2003), The Golf (All but something like 9 issues), VW Golf, WOB!, GTI Plus, GTI Extreme, the list goes on and on - I loved PVW. I loved the Mk3 scene. My heart is broken. I am a lost person.
I am off to drown my sorrow in several six packs of American beer. (I quit drinking German beer too in protest).

Re: PVW: I never thoguht the day would come... (VAG Parts Bin)

well, I've seen some threads recently, complaining about PVW going downhill, but I didn't expect to hear it from you too. Well, honestly, I'm not surprised since we tend to share similar tastes in modding style.
I think it speaks volumes, the fact that you put it back on the rack. I mean, I did the same thing a few months ago, and haven't bought it since...but I haven't really been reading it for nearly as long as you have.
While we're on the subject, which magazine could you suggest that I might like? I'm not terribly into aircooled, so I tend not to pick up things like VW Trends. Right about now, I basically only rear EuroTuner, and that's mainly because I have high hopes for improved content...and I think jackman's one funny mofugga.

eh...i think it's a cool mag but i never really looked for inspiration in it...i do what pleases me & thats all. things change & sometimes you gotta change along w/ it. if you chose not then thats on you.some of the cars i liked on there & some i didnt...but im not holding pvw accounted for what i like & holding them liable to just show what i like. sometimes people try to veer off the path to try & set a new trend. they might be pulling that off & gaining respect over in europe & @ the same time alienating their u.s. audience. it's hard @ times to please everyone. to each their own.

no, it's not at all. My dad has a subscription, so i heist it from him instead of paying for it. Eurotuner isn't all that bad..and sonsidering it's not VW specific, it's got quite a bit of VW content. I haven't seen the new issue of PVW, but i think tomorrow i'll go to Books-A-Million just to see what the all the heartbreak is about. European styling is changing..but so is American styling. I will say that, american styling is continuously improving, whereas, saying the same thing for european styling would be a lie. I imagine that "euro" styling is getting rather old in europe..so naturally they're going to go for different looks. To bad, it's a turn for the worse.

I agree - EC isn't too bad. I let my subscription lapse about 2 years ago, but it is still a decent magazine. It doesn't follow the street styling trends, which is nice.

I haven't read any other US magazine in years. They never matched up to the European 'zines. The Euro rags are good, but they are featuring cars that make me ill and I cannot continue to condone this by giving them my $9.25 per issue (BTW: PVW started out at $6.50 - what the hell happened?? $9.25 per issue now...??? Nuts!).
Hopfully Anthony will leave this open for a bit..

.. back to my beer.

i've always dug EC pretty much...and I used to like PVW...but I stopped buying car mags like a year ago because I don't really care anymore. I mean I still love cars, I just don't love the mags enough to spend the money on them.

EC has gone way down hill in the past 3 years IMO. It used to be on the teir of Road & Track or Car & Driver, but now it is more of a ET type of a rag. I think they have cut the # of published pages in EC by 2/3 or so over the past few years.

I do find it intresting that a year ago, even one was praising pvw, and saying how ET was crap... seems like these days its done a complete 180... PVW is focusing on the mini truck style, whereas ET has started featuring some very cool cars, had some great articles

I lost all faith in PVW when they claimed that a certain car that will remain unnamed was the greatest MKIII in America, when we all know it ain't nothing compared to some of the other cars we all know and love. That did it for me.

or it could just be that when one person says something everybody else feels they need to agree like sheep to fit in

Nice beer shot VAG
. I'm gonna have to agree with the majority. The new Euro style is just getting way too heinous now. I stopped buying the Euro Mags here (which is not many in Japan) because they all went to [email protected] ET is a good mag and is probably the only one I look forward to....I do occasionally get EC when they get it here, but they really don't cover anything interesting usually I think, but to each their own. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
