This may be a stupid question, but how come on your euro B5 (and Audis), there is that little rectangualr patch below the headlamps? we don't have that on our NA B5s... ???

That is not a kit or a mod, you either have it or you don't. The VW cars in the states don't usually get these. I say usually because last week at the Baltimore Auto Show, I saw the W8 and guess what? It had the headlight washer on it!! Also of note were headlights similar to Orjan's but with the turn signals in between the low an high beams, really cool!

Actually, it is a kit or mod. quailallstar got one of the HID conversion kits, while a few others have gotten the Hella OEM Bi-Xenon headlights.

The W8 had better come with Bi-Xenons (they'd be exactly the same as Orjan's, the Bi-Xenons do have the turn signals in the middle), with it costing so much!

And headlight washers go along with HIDs (typically mandatory, along with levelling motors).

As candy' put it, the small rectangles are"R2-D2" style headlight washers, mandatory on cars with HIDs in Europe.
AFAIK, the US-version will have Bi-xenons identical to mine - with the blinker in the middle. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

In Europe, it is mandatory to have headlight washers if your car is equipped with HID headlamps. Since none of the North American VW's (besides the W8) come with HID's, they don't have headlight washers.
By the way, I just finished installing headlight washers on my pre-face lift Passat. All the parts are in the VW parts catalog.
