Hey, If anyone could answer a couple of questions (boht questions are related)that would be great!!
first question:
The DSG trans is computer controlled, (launch,shifts,...) IS the CLUTCH under Warranty? It would seem logical that it SHOULD be(since its totally automated) but does anyone know?
and the second question:
If it ISN'T under warrany. What would it cost to replace it after it wears out? ALOT?
and two about the launch control:
Does anyone have any info on the "LAUNCH CONTROL" or whatever they call it?
Does it always "launch" at a preset RPM(1500?) or can you UP the RPM (2500-3000)it launchs from?
Thanks for any info regardin gthese specific questions!!!! http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Yes, i'd like more info on the 'Launch' program too
I heard that in the BMW smg, you can only launch it like 5 times and then your warrenty is shot
Kinda stupid if you ask me, kind of like going to a strip show.
(You see the chaka, you want the chaka, the chaka even may touch you to get a feel for it, but then she goes bye bye)

Using LC will not void you warranty with BMW. That is a myth. In Europe, it's recommended that after 25LC that you replace the clutch.
In the US where it launches at 1800rpm there is no such recommendation.
Either way using LC will not void the warranty.

so If I lauch it hard I have to pay to replace the clutchs?( however expensive that is http://****************.com/smile/emthdown.gif http://****************.com/smile/emthdown.gif http://****************.com/smile/emthdown.gif http://****************.com/smile/emthdown.gif
)
My thought was it should be covered. If it was an AUTO the torque convertor is covered. Why not a clutch. Its computer controlled just like an auto trans. They programmed it.
And launching at 1800 rpm will suck!

Give me a 6-SPEED!

Re: Question about DSG trans and warranty/ maintence costs???? (dwx4)

Hello fellow R32 fans, I am considering ordering a R32 to- replacing my 2001 GTi VR6. I haven't posted here in a long time but reading this section briefly leads me to believe the R32 will NOT be available with a real manual transmission- is this true? or am I just still an idiot who can't read?? I read about this DSG and it doesn't sound that wonderful to me, if I can not get this car with a manual I will look into a BMW further. Thanks for any information.

Nobody knows anything for certain about the U.S.-bound R32 save for the fact that it's supposed to arrive sometime this year. Everything beyond that is pure speculation and rumor until VW announces the official details. Stay tuned!

you don't have to but it's recommended and that's for the Euro version.
why wouldn't you replace the clutch if it's worn? it is a wear item just like your tires or brake pads

because, My agruement is, Its Computer controlled and therefore its esentually a "Torque Convertor"( A part that IS covered under Normal Wear and Tear)
If VW programs it and it goes thru clutches, I don't want to pay for There programing.
This VW IS the Ultimate VW GOLF and I want to have some fun with it, NOT pay for 2 Clutches, all the time, like the BMWs.

A torque convertor isn't really a wear item like a clutch is. If there were DBW brakes, do you think the pads would be covered under warranty? Most likely not.

I'm saying that with this trans I have no control over how the trans shift. SO, I shouldn't be responsible for the replacement cost.

I see your point, but just remember what car manufacturer you're talking about. They don't even want to cover a bad coil pack if you hang aftermarket fuzzy dice from your rearview mirror.
