question about passive restraint seatbelts and interior door trim

Ok I put some scirocco seats in my 91 GTI so I had to convert to "normal" 3 point seatbelts and ditch the passive crap. Me and a friend got it done but went ahead and left the buckle on the doors. So just a minute ago I went out and took those buckles off. I knew this would leave a gap in the interior door trim like everyone said. Well my question is this. I heard that you can get this trim peice off of a car that did not have the passive belts. Well does it make a difference as to Golf or Jetta? I just looked at my moms 87 Jetta that has the normal belts and here car has the older style doors with the small quarter window in the front. Now her interior door frame trim has a break in it so that it doesn't interfere with the quarter window so this trim won't work and wouldn't be any better even if it would. So it is my thought that 85-87 Jettas wont work. Do Golfs also have the same doors as the Jetta's? If so they would have this quarter window also right? So if those years of cars won't work what will? It was my understanding that 88-92 cars had the passive crap on them. What years and model cars have the "uncut' inside door frame trim that I need? I am confused about this someone please help clear it up.

The outside frame of the door did not change when they went to the "big doors" just the glass. You should be able to pickup the parts from any 3 point Golf or Jetta with the same number of doors as your car. You may also be able to score the rubber fillers for the passive bolt holes on the door.

Yeah ok but heres the deal. Maybe I am not understanding what you are saying but where the quarter windows are on the small doors the trim peice that I need (interior door frame trim peice) stops there and then a second peice continues down to the bottom of the window. This second peice is considerably wider and can't be used. Now I was looking at a 4 door Jetta so as you say I may need a two door but I don't see how any car with the quarter windows in the front doors could work. What does VW use to plug the holes on the door jamb where the bolts went thru? Just a rubber plug?

If I'm following you right, the holes you're talking about VW didn't do anything with....they just left them open. But I guess you could find rubber plugs and cap them up.

TTT
If anyone with experience doing this can jump in that would be great. I am still unsure as to what part will work.

I assume you are talking about the window seals, in which case, you will need to find an '88-89 GTI 16V, as all of the US-spec 8V cars from '88-> have passive restraints. 16Vs got them in 1990.
