Question about techtonics catback exhaust

I just ordered the techtonics 2.25" Catback Exhaust system for my NA corrado vr6, And I thought that 2.5" was overkill for a NA vr6.
Now ive been hearing and seeing 2.5" catback systems on vr6's, Did i just order the wrong size exhaust for my car?
Could someone who knows a little more than me fill me in on what the correct size for maxium performance gain is? thanks for any input!

Re: Question about techtonics catback exhaust (Lotech)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the stock ones were 2.25? I have a 2.5 on mine. Maybe you ordered a 4 cyl. one?
Re: Question about techtonics catback exhaust (Lukedub)

Stock is 2.25, I have 2.5. Either way I don't even consider 3.0 overkill.
Re: Question about techtonics catback exhaust (BadAssCorrado)

poop, Why did they recomend that then? this sucks its already in the mail
Re: Question about techtonics catback exhaust (Lotech)

I just ordered my magnaflow 2.25 for my VR6. I don't think it's too small. From what I read magnaflow did alot of research on what size was optimal for the VR6 and the 2.5 was just too big, they were loosing torque because of a lack of back pressure.
Oh yeah, also from what I've read the stock exhaust is smaller than 2.25, not by alot bu still smaller.

Re: Question about techtonics catback exhaust (dfinn)

i have not felt any torque loss with my 2.5 TT SS.
If anything, it should be bigger. Like 2.75 would be nice.
Re: Question about techtonics catback exhaust (Lotech)

send it back when you get it and order a 2.5..
Re: Question about techtonics catback exhaust (corpsedub)

2.5" is the size that TT recommends on the VR6. They dyno tuned it for this engine, it's the correct sizing. Yours truly has one too!
Re: Question about techtonics catback exhaust (SiDeeFung)

Different mufflers and resonators have different restrictions to flow, so it is not always just about piping size. having said that I've had cat backs at 2.0" (neuspeed) to 2.25" (stock) to 2.75" (milltek prototype) to 2.5" (milltek-for sale in the classifieds) and tomorrow i will be getting a ss TT 2.5"
the 2.0 neuspeed flowed fine and wasn't too restrictive even though it was small piping-wasn't much of a seat of the pants difference from a 2.25" neuspeed, sounded different though
the 2.75" loss A LOT of torque
the 2.5" milltek felt great but is too quiet for me...
waiting to see what the new TT will be like...
Re: Question about techtonics catback exhaust (c1gti)

from what i've heard/read the TT are pretty loud.
Re: Question about techtonics catback exhaust (dfinn)

definitely loud, drony kind of, no real noticeable power, just made it rev quicker

2.5 is the way to go on a naturally aspirated VR6. If you have a low boost forced induction car. This is still the way to go. If you are running a high boost, or high hp VR6 you could go up to a 3" exhaust.
